AAPOR 2008: Mark DiCamillo

Topics: AAPOR , Mark DiCamillo

Continuing with our series of brief interviews conducted at this week's AAPOR Conference, this one with Mark DiCamillo, director of The Field Poll in California. A year ago, we reported on Field's use of RBS sampling. Here, DiCamillo discusses details of Field's ability to interview voters over their cell phones in California using Registration Based Sampling (RBS):

It's amazing. You actually give an interview Mark with a straight face. With all that reporter savvy you can't seem to articulate the question? "Well, if you are getting 89% of your RBS samplings from 7% which are all cell phone users, how would that be in any way a representative sampling, considering that anyone over 31 would not, more then likely have a cell phone listed as their phone number." Being that cell phones have only reached mass appeal and acceptance over the pass 10 years and even those over 30 that have and use them would not have registered using their cell phone, phone numbers when they first registered to vote."
A through and non-partisan reporter would then follow-up with this questions. "What were the percentages of the age groups sampled and their party affiliations? He was very vague about that wasn’t he. He just said they tended to be young but he didn’t say the exact percentages of age nor party affiliations. Let me guess, the majority of voters that would just be registering to vote using their cell phone numbers would be individuals under the age of 30.
Let’s see I first registered to vote in 1976 and have been living in the same place for over 15 years so its not real likely that my RBS would have my cell phone number because I didn’t have one when I last moved! Wow...how's that for some in-depth impartial reporting. Gee...Mark you go there!
Basing a Field Poll on young people only and young people that no matter what party have been predominately brain-washed in our 97% democrat/socialist CTA. Yes, those impartial demigod's themselves, the California Teachers Association, that have so presented an unbiased curriculum to California public school students. So that on some honest polls we have found out that even Republican young voters are more socially liberal then older voters in their same party. So, oh my what a surprise that Mr. DiCamillo found that young people under 30 want the government to take care of their sorry arses, with more social programs!
Wow...once again great job!
