It's Alabama. What do you expect?
BTW . . .
It's time to start dusting off the old message, "Are you better off today than you were the day Bush left office?".
The National Journal reports that "despite tough climate, public prefers Obama's policies."
"According to the latest Society for Human Resource Management/National Journal Congressional Connection Poll, conducted with the Pew Research Center, 46 percent said Obama's path would do more to improve economic conditions in the next few years, compared to 29 percent who said policies put in place by Bush would."

Why do you even poll Alabama??? Poll NC, MO, and KY !!!!
Posted on July 28, 2010 2:25 PM
Important to point out two things:
1) @"Mike E" looking at the Pres. Obama approvals here? All I can say is Nov '08 results: McCain, 60%. Obama, 39%. I'm all for pointing out trends and issues, esp with this president, but picking just to pick 'cause you don't like someone?
2) Black turnout in this year's AL Dem gubernatorial primary - which produced Sparks' surprise 62-38 win over "presumed front-runner" Davis - was apparently higher than the '08 AL Dem PRESIDENTIAL primary. No poll prior to the Dem gubernatorial primary (admittedly, that I can remember) showed Sparks leading Davis. There seems to be an issue of under-estimating both Black turnout and the amount of support Sparks gets, as a White Dem, from Black voters.
Bentley was the "Cinderella story" of that contentious GOP primary and his fav/unfav #s seem more than legit, but Sparks has a similar path to his nomination and gut-wise this low-ball # for him just feels "off." GOP shouldn't get comfortable is all I mean.

@Shannon:
No, the real question is, "Are you better off today than you were the day the democrats took over the house and senate?".
Voters aren't nearly as stupid as the elitist liberals think they are.

Gallup weekly polling for the president shows his approval among hispanics down to 55%. Not exactly the bounce he was hoping for when he sued AZ. He is also finally under 90% with black voters. And down to 38% with Whites.
Speaking of the AZ law I bet most of the 'problems' the judge had with the law will eventually get tossed out and circumvented through new wording but have the same effect.

Keep it classy Mike. Africanize his name. Forward a photo with him dressed as a witch doctor, and then join the chorus singing "The libbies call us racists!"

I'm not shocked by this analysis at all:
Democrats More Extreme Than Republicans

Is it extreme to think that Earth is billions of years old rather than 6,000 years old?
Is it extreme to want affordable health care for all our citizens?
Is it extreme to prefer spending a trillion on domestic issues, rather than spending trillions destroying and rebuilding Iraq?
Is it extreme to give more credence to scientists, than to Rush Limbaugh?
Is it extreme to favor welfare for poor people, rather than corporate welfare for big oil?
Were these questions posed to active Republicans in my area, they would get very pissed off, and then they would label you an "extremist" on all counts.
I guess you are right Field Marshall.
Posted on July 28, 2010 5:20 PM
Yeah, obviously the average American in that Pew poll is a dumbazz who forms his opinions from Rasmussen and Fox news.
That narrative is about to pay off big time for the left. Finally. I can feel it. Any time now.
Posted on July 28, 2010 5:42 PM
Who thinks the Earth is 6,000 years old?
Who doesn't want affordable health care?
Who has come out saying the US needs to spend more?
Who has said they give more credence to Rush than scientists?
I think you get my point.
Posted on July 28, 2010 5:42 PM
Field Marshal,
Your GOP gubanatorial candidates in Alabama - that's who. They actually got into a slug-fest over who was the most "anti-evolution" of the bunch.
Amazingly, to Alabama's credit, they selected Bentley over the knuckle-draggers.

"Africanize his name."
Obongo is not an Africanisation as far as I know (admittedly I am only familiar with the African languages Swahili and Arabic). The fact that you think it is an Africanization is indicative of a lack of cultural awareness and racism. You must be one of those badly educated, insular, red neck Americans that the left wing claims exist all over the place. There is more to the world than American pop culture you know.
But thanks for playing.

"Is it extreme to prefer spending a trillion on domestic issues, rather than spending trillions destroying and rebuilding Iraq?"
i.e., screw those Iraqi camel jockies. They are only Mooooslims.
The racism of the left is bubbling out as their electoral prospects sink and they get desperate.
Posted on July 28, 2010 6:17 PM
Mark,
Which candidate said they believed the Earth was 6,000 years old? Which candidate said they supported more expensive health care? Which candidate said they get their science from Rush? Maybe you can supply a link.
Supporting those things and believing in creationism are VASTLY different things.

I think we found the conservative version of obamalover/farleftandproud, carrying on their proud tradition of calling everyone who disagrees with them a racist because they want attention but don't have anything intelligent to say.

"I think we found the conservative version of obamalover/farleftandproud, carrying on their proud tradition of calling everyone who disagrees with them a racist because they want attention but don't have anything intelligent to say."
Just trying to make a point Chris V. But if you think about it, and set aside the parody language it is a good point.

Hey, thanks for your douchey insult. You rock!

"Which candidate said they believed the Earth was 6,000 years old?"
Iirc, Sarah Palin is on record that she agrees with that statement. Mike Huckabee too. I think Jim Gilmore and Sam Brownback also. Or at least indicated they indicated they do not believe in evolution, they might not agree with the 6,000 years statement.

What's a good point? That you like to accuse entire blocs of political ideology of being racist just because you don't like them much? You're right, it's brilliant stuff. Truly the high point of political discourse.

Way to miss the point.
If you payed attention you might be able to contribute something intelligent.

Just for the record Reagan's approval was about 41 nationally at this point in his term in 1982, slightly below Obama's national numbers, and a hair above Obama's alabama numbers. I wouldn't read to much into Obama being in the 40s nationally or in the high 30s in alabama right now. Reagan's numbers rose eventually when the economy bounced back and Obama's will probably do the same.

Mike E,
You are either telling the truth about being a racist, or you are a damned liar.
I'll take you at your word. The snide attitude and insulting comments are entirely consistent with the handful of hard-core racists I served with in the Army, and continue to encounter in my day-to-day activities in the Deep South.
When you loudly proclaim your being a racist, it harkens back to Ted Haggard looking into the camera and saying "We know all about your perverted ways."
When you loudly proclaim you are a racist, I see any of a score of gay Repuplican Congressmen deriding homosexuals, while living an alternative lifestyle in the shadows.
When you say you are a "racist" I damn sure believe you.
Or, you could just be another damned liar.

There is a big difference between believing in evolution and believing the Earth is 6,000 years old. I found no record of Brownback, Gilmore or Huckabee stating they believe the Earth to be 6000 years old. More Liberal fanaticism and lies i guess....
