Rand Paul is one of the few Republicans who attract youth in pretty large numbers. His anti-war stance and his stance on freedom of all civil liberties really attracts young voters. He is a true conservative on fiscal economic issues and he is liberal on social issues. He would argue his stance is what true conservatives should be taking, but in all reality he has, what most people believe are, liberal ideas on social issues. Pro-gay marriage and pro-civil liberties, we need more libertarian Republicans like him.

Don't know about socially liberal ndirish11. Never heard him say he was pro-gay marriage. In fact, he drew some fire for being anti-gay marriage (see below). But he is a true libertarian. He believes the US should abandon overseas military operations.
He is pro-life on abortion, pro-immigration reform, against Obamacare and for free market health care solutions. He favors smaller govt and less taxes. He is anti-gun control and for homeschooling.

Heee Haw

He's a nut case because he is in favor of smaller government, personal freedom and not murdering unborn children? I guess that makes sense if you're in favor of a communist state.

Take a look at this link. It is interesting to both progressives and conservatives alike. It has tax rates of countries around the world including western Democracies, the former Soviet bloc and Developing countries. http://www.worldwide-tax.com/index.asp#partthree

Oddly enough, conservatives would actually like the former soviet bloc countries; they sort of have a flat tax rate. It is interesting. Finland, had a lower tax rate than us surprisingly.

social libertarian does NOT equal liberal...they are waaaaaaaay different. i am a fiscal conservative and social libertarian......I cannot stand social libs.
Social libertarians beleive in personal freedom and the ability to make your own choices and live your own life so long as it does not harm others. Social libs, like social cons want to use g'ment to impose certains values they feel are proper. Some obvious examples would be cons desire to use g'ment to control your choice on abortions...and social libs who want to use g'ment to control your choice on owning firearms....

I can work a lot better with social libertarians than Social conservatives. I don't think social libertarians are very dominant in the GOP because the status quo of the GOP like George W, Sarah Palin, Jim Demint and Newt Gingrich are libertarian on things like guns and paying for your own health care, yet they have no problem with what happened in Iraq and failed to admit it was a mistake and was a huge factor in leading to our defecit. These dominant voices of the GOP are also very much in favor of overturning Roe Vs wade and some of them want to infringe abstinence education programs in public schools. That is where they are hypocrites. Perhaps Ron and Rand Paul may be the new hope for modern conservativism.

You will get no argument from me. I left the GOP in part because of there staunch social conservative views. Both social libs and cons are th same, they both wish to use g'ment to control my life in there own way. If the GOP were to adopt a more socially libertarian agenda alongside a fiscally conservative agenda, I would rejoin the party in a second.

I think I was a little misunderstood. I realize there is a huge difference between socially liberal and libertarian. People through the word liberal and conservative around like it means nothing, people who do not follow politics well would call his stance on social issues "liberal" simply because of the fact that they are not conservative (Even though both Pauls would tell you that their libertarian stance is truly conservative)
Field Marshall: http://www.nationalbroadside.com/?p=1739
That sums up his view on the stance. He is socially libertarian meaning he wants the government out of all marriages.
I think social libertarian policies bring us all together, I mean look at this thread. For once farleftandproud and Stillow are agreeing on something. People who are fighting for equal freedoms need to realize that the candidates who are socially libertarian are going to help their cause a lot more then your ordinary Democrat.

Sorry, i was confused. Being socially libertarian is not the same as being pro-gay marriage. I agree 100% with him.
