I guess Obama should give up on Kentucky. Oh wait, he already did. ;-)

Interesting that KY borders 4 (as of now) toss-ups.

McConnell's race a statistical dead heat?
Disclaimer: Absent a Macaca moment in the Bluegrass State, I don't think the Dems have a chance of picking off this Senate seat.
But with both presidential candidates running throw-the-bums-out campaigns, and with Congress poised to enact a tremendously unpopular (if necessary) Wall Street bailout, the environment for Senate incumbents could get even more poisonous than it already is.

Lunford surging!!! WOW

I know KY supports the GOP due to their BUSTLING ECONOMY. Intelligent. I guess the jokes are true.

I prefer Popeye's chicken honestly.

Obama is polling better in the general than he performed in the primary. Didn't he get something like 29% of the vote in the primary?
The good sign for Obama; he's not going to get blown out by a 2:1 margin in the Appalachian regions of IN, OH, and VA.

KY... Thats a slippery state... :)
Posted on September 23, 2008 3:06 PM
@JCK
Obama narrowly lost Indiana, Obama won Virginia and Obama lost Ohio by 10. None of these are blowouts by a 2:1 margin.
He was destroyed in the Appalachian regions of WV, KY.

KY solidly in McCann's camp as assumed, but WOW that senate race is interesting. Would like to see some more polls that support these findings before I take it seriously.
Posted on September 23, 2008 3:12 PM
I'd like to see another poll in WV.....WV and Kentucky are almost the same place.....Obama has zero shot to win either.
Posted on September 23, 2008 3:17 PM
@voteforamerica
I think JCK's point was that Obama is polling better in KY than he performed in the that state's primary, which he is.
Obama's 38% in Kentucky is only slightly worse than the 39.7% John Kerry got four years ago. The logic is that McCain will have to outperform Kerry in the Appalachian regions of VA, KY and NC to overcome Obama's expected edge in the less impoverished (and less white) areas of those states.

voteforamerica,
Kindly re-read what I wrote. I did not say that he lost or got blown out in IN, OH, or VA. However, he did get blown out in the APPALACHIAN REGIONS within the states of IN, OH, and VA. If you don't believe me, check the results. He lost some counties in SE OH by 60 points.

My point is that Kentucky is largely Appalachian, and he did get blown out in the primary. The fact that he's polling so much better now there bodes well his chances in IN, OH, and VA.

@Stillow
Agreed. It's ridiculous to make WV yellow on the basis of a single poll.
Posted on September 23, 2008 3:21 PM
WV should not be yellow. Obama WILL NOT win West Virginia.
Posted on September 23, 2008 3:33 PM
One of 19 states McCain is going to win.
Posted on September 23, 2008 3:39 PM
Move it along. Nothing to see here, folks.
Posted on September 23, 2008 3:45 PM
WV is yellow because Pollster's map is based purely on arithmetics. It doesn't take into account any human consideration and it's good - we can make our own maps, Pollster can provide us the numbers.

If you're already on the phone asking about the close Senate race, why not also ask about the President race? If Obama gets turnout in KY, even if he loses, he may influence the Senate race.

I have to wonder if all of you geniuses who are slamming KY have ever actually BEEN here. I moved to Louisville six months ago from NY. I have encountered more intelligent, interesting and aware people in the last six months in KY than in the entire 30 years I spent in NY. So please stop demonstrating your ignorance.
