Gov. Patrick: "It's a free country, I wish it weren't."

I wonder if this poll was taken before or after Patrick said he wished the country wasn't as free as it is that Glenn Beck can speak at the Lincoln Memorial on Aug 27th. What a buffoon. But the people of Mass. will probably re-elect him since they are so regressive.

I think any progressive can feel the same way when you have an idiot like Glenn Beck, and there are times I wish our country censored people like Beck and Limbaugh too, or like they do in Germany where the swastika is a punishable offense, but again many wrongs don't make a right.

I remember Dick Cheney saying after the attack on Iraq "you can't critisize your country during wartime". I'll never forget all the free speech cases in the 80's where metal and rap bands were fought people like Tipper Gore and Pat Robertson, and free speech won out every time.

I love how people from red states keep calling a state that is way ahead in education and in just about every category regressive.

I liked this poll before I saw it with leaners on Ras's web site. However seeing Harry Reid with a 3 point lead with leaners is a little bit of a relief

Devol Patrick wants to break a civil rights barrier this Fall and become the first African American, governor or senator to ever be re-elected. I mean there haven't been many of them anyhow. You had Sen. Brook in Mass who lost re-election, and Wilder in VA, governors only get one term.

It's comments like these that keep racism alive and well. How about "He wants to be governor because he thinks he's the best person to lead the state"?

Hey Farleft, how about the way the Dixie Chicks were crucified? On this point the Republicans have no defense:

You can't critisize the President in time of war unless he's a Democrat. Total hypocrisy.

At least Democrats are equal opportunity critics. :-)

I say let them keep babbling away. I WANT people to know EXACTLY what they are voting for in November. It may be our only hope.

@FarLeft

You just blasted Glenn Beck. Yet you go on to say that Devol Patrick should be governor because a black person has never won a governorship twice? Only a die-hard liberal would even care about a fact like that.

This just proves my point that most liberals are as bad as the racists from the South when it comes to realizing MLK's "Dream." Just how are judging people by their character not the color of their skin and wanting Patrick to be governor because he is black compatible?

How very fascist of you.... typical of the progressive movement.

Patrick is an idiot for making the comment and then for reinforcing it later that day. In any other state, he would be toast. But not in Mass who elected a murder-senator for a good three decades.

Deval Patrick is being Breitbarted. The right wing blogosphere is going nuts. This is what I heard. He was asked if he was "troubled" if the rally was being held when and where it was. He said "it's a free country" Then said "..but I wish it weren't " which was clearly in response to the question. Then repeated "it's a free country." May be he was a bit clumsy in his placement of clauses, but hell he at least answers questions from the press unlike "deer in the headlights" Jan Brewer.

How can anyone in their right mind think that Deval Patrick, would think this should not be a free country? It's totally and utterly insane. Be against him for his policies. Don't try to turn him into a monster.

Here is an article that actually confirms what I just said. The Herald is a right wing paper by the way. The reporter who asked the question agrees that he didn't think Patrick was calling for the enslavement of the country or he wouldn't have moved on to his next question!

I had to dig through reams of right wing garbage before I came to this. Man, we are in trouble in this country when people feel they can lie completely without compunction in order to win an election, and flood out the truth to boot.

That's the way the media works VTWisdom. Its similar to the "Good job Brownie" comment from GWBush during Katrina that got completely misinterpreted and taken out of context.

Or another is Sue Lowdons chicken comment during the primaries or Bucks high-heels comment.

My comment about Patrick being the first African American governor or senator to be re-elected to statewide office is not racist at all. I like Patrick, and have met him personally. He is great with people and is motivating to hear speak. I wouldn't ever imply that someone should be re-elected because the are black; for Patrick it would be quite an accomplishment.

I also want to ad that Rasmussen in this case hasn't taken into account that Mass is about 9 percent African American, which isn't a lot compared to other states; usually when you have a black candidate running for high office, turnout in the black community is higher.

Obama won Mass by 20 points, but I remember there was such low turnout in Mass for the Scott Brown special election, that among those people only 5 percent more voted for Obama than voted for Mccain.

Glenn Beck should have been allowed to hold his rally on the day of MLK's rally, but I must say that Glenn Beck's claim that he wants to "reclaim the civil rights movement" is one of the most offensive things I have heard in a long time. I don't blame Deval Patrick for being angry.

Chris V.:

It is just repulsive that a man who constantly uses veiled racial messages to stir up anger against Obama would have the gall to say that he wants to take the mantle of the civil rights movement.
