Somehow I can't shake the feeling they'll find a way to Franken this whole thing and drag it out.

If... If Dems don't heed this warning, and yes this election was a warning, and they push Obamacare through they WILL lose both control of the Senate and the House and Obama's presidency will NEVER recover.

This is because Repubs won't vote for Dems and Indy's and many Dems won't vote for Dems because they will be unhappy with 1) the bill and 2) the way they passed it. It will kill the Dem party for at least two Presidental elections.

I always said if Obama didn't get results out of the "Hope" from his election it would cause apathy. If the Dems lose the house their voters will become very apathetic, especially 18-30 yr olds. And they will lose those voters for at least 8 years because they will have lost faith in the voting system.

Well .. the lazy politicians in the Republican Party did not bother to work to propose an alternative to health care ... have not earned their salary in 2009 ... they won. Wow.

My values are maybe old fashion American values -- If you accept a salary and do not work for it, I can never support what you say.

There are a few messages here: 1) enough Americans do not support bi-partisanship and will never cross party lines to make bipartisanship a thing of the past, 2) Democrats should understand that supporting any Republican initiative or supporting any Republican in any venue anywhere for anything is worthless in the short and long-term.

Of course America will be the ultimate victim. But why should progress/change (the American strength) deter us from defeating our fellow American "enemy?" [The use of "enemy" here is borrowed from Tom Delay.]

Uh, am I missing something??? The GOP wrote a very promising health care reform package which was voted down on the night the House voted in Pelosicare. To call the Republican party lazy is to call congress and democrats lazy as well. They are all paid and equally responsible for passing legislation.

Here you go, proof for my argument, unlike the lack of such for yours...

@Jake

Republicans and Democrats changed a lot over the years. They are not the same parties. Lincoln was the first president to levy an income tax. Not very conservative of him, huh?

Jake:

They switch all of the time, please support your argument before you attempt to deconstruct mine. Lincoln was a Republican because he believed in the intelligence and freedom allowed to the citizens of our country, regardless of race. Democrats these days believe that the citizens of this nation are not intelligent to the point that they can even procure health care for themselves. If you watch a recap of the debate in the house the night the bill passed, you will see time and time again Democrats mentioning that they feel it is the responsibility of the government to tell people what health care they are entitled to.

I threw the comment about Lincoln in as sarcasm in response to the stupidity of your inane comment. Parties switch all of the time. By associating yourself with "ramming it down the throats of America" you are doing a disservice to your own beliefs. I suggest you read the bill line by line and see how you feel afterwords. You will be amazed as to what is actually in the bill.

@Jake

You are clueless. Lincoln believed in a strong central government (hence the states rights arguments of the South). Lincoln believe in income taxes. Lincoln believed in equality. Hardly conservative values.

And if you haven't noticed The entire South used to be Democrat, but since the Democrats passed the civil rights act the entire South switched Republican. LBJ, a southerner, even noted that he lost the South for the Democratic Party when he signed the Civil Rights act. And he unfortunately turned out to be right. After the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts were passed, the Democrats encountered major electoral defeats in the South, which is why the South is almost entirely Republican today.

Another reason why the conservative South is Republican is because they are bigoted and don't believe that gays should have equal rights. Sometimes you need to shove things, like the Civil rights act, down the bigoted throats of Americans for their own good. If LBJ didn't strong arm the Senate into passing the Civil Rights act where would blacks be today?

Jake:

So, civil rights reform was just as health care is today? We are under the exact same economic conditions? The numbers in congress was the exact same as they are today? What happened after LBJ? Ah yes, Nixon had to come in as clean up crew. I don't understand why you make a relationship to civil rights movements as they have nothing to do with health care. Are you implying that health care is as much a right as the right to be whoever you are? By the way, I am gay, so please do not play the gay card. I am also exuberantly wealthy and can afford private health care. I feel for those who can't. Obama states that the wealthy will pay for health care by tax. However, I suggest you research just what Obama considers "wealthy".

Jake,

OK, I read the first 5 or 6 pages of the GOP's health care "plan" and also its summary (which is very vague).

For one, the CBO scored the GOP plan and found it does very little to cover any uninsured people.

As far as I can tell, it attempts to deal with the uninsured and high-risk people that would normally be denied by basically expanding and incentivizing HSAs. Other than that, there's tort reform and some in-state deregulation. It's no wonder their bill doesn't cost much...it doesn't do anything!

I have yet to see how a person who cannot afford decent coverage can save up enough money for an HSA to be effective.

It says they will lower premiums but it's conspicuously vague on how that would be accomplished.

Now the democrats are going to have to do something drastic to keep from losing the house. If they keep ramming this crap down our throats, they could lose the senate too. Then we'll have republicans running things and calling the shots and that's almost as bad a having the democrats in control.

MikeyA:

The Dems lost any Repubs from interacting on HCR when they bailed out the automakers. From that point on it was clear who the Dems were trying to serve and what the GOP was not going to do.
