There was a special on CNBC the other day about the boom in Oklahoma that is going on despite the recession. Oklahoma City especially has seen dramatic growth in the last few years. Lots of cranes dotting the skyline as it is considered the natural gas hub of the US.

They have also benefitted from good leadership in a lot of areas. Not just govt.

Bricktown in OKC is worth the 4 hour drive for me. We go a couple of times a year. It may have been city planning gone right that got it started, but there was a lot of private money that made it what it is.

In Stillwater you should see what millions and maybe billions from Boone Pickens has done at OSU.

The Casinos are racking in the cash.

Capitalism at it's finest, boys and girls.

I think Oklahoma is the most Republican of all the southern states. I looked at a map and noticed that the larger cities in the south tend to be represented by Democrats. This has to do with the higher African American population and more universities. I noticed that Tulsa and OK city are both represented by Republicans. I noticed that Borin, a very blue dog Democrat represents a more rural area.

I didn't know OK legalized gambling? I know that some southern states cash in on casinos and other think it is absolutely evil and immoral. I remember George W. Opposed casinos as governor for moral reasons.

In more progressive states like Mass, VT and Maine gambling is frowned upon for a different set of reasons. Lots of women's groups believe it leads men to being deadbeat dads and domestic violence. The other complaint in much of New England is it's tendancy to attract some unsavory people. That is their opinion, not my opinion. Personally I support casinos because I don't believe they will be built in historical towns and upscale suburbs.

With the economy being as depressed as it is, even in VT, I am all for building a casino in the southwest corner of the state. It would be secluded from residential areas.
