This isn't a terrible poll for Dems but it probably isn't going to be a big priority in 2010. I honestly think the "I Hate Obama Democrats" live in about 5 states and the rest of the country made that switch from the Democrat party to the GOP a long time ago. These states include TN, Ok, MS Arkansas, and KY. They may just vote for one of their own Democrats in state but that is as far as their loyalty goes. I remember when Kerry was speaking to the VFW in KNoxville TN, the older folks asked him tough questions about why he changed his mind about the Iraq war. He answered it the best he could, but I am sure many of those Democrats didn't vote for him.

You can say we have three major parties; The Democratic party, The Republican party and "The Democrat" party.

What do you think is inaccurate in this poll?

RW:

I believe that it can accurately be argued that the "Democrat" party that you describe in these 5 states is all that is left of the true Democratic party of the early to mid 20th century. over the last quarter of the 20th century the Democratic party seemed to morph into a much more progressive party. Even though there is no doubting FDRs lean toward socialist policies, for the most part the Democratic party as a whole was much more conservative then. I'm not arguing any point here, just making some observations.

How is this an outlier Melvin? It's long been thought Republicans would win the governors mansion in Oklahoma.

This is a bit of a shock for me. I don't see how any Dem has a chance in OK. Edmonson has a well-known name (of his dad and uncle (a former gov of the state) and, at this point, I suppose that name recognition is worth a whole lot in these early pre-primary polls.

It feels like it should be pretty rare to have a race this packed for Governor. 2 former Lt. Governors, a sitting member of Congress, and the current AG!

I hope that Rasmussen will do a poll this week for West Virginia if Manchin runs for senate in 2010 against generic republicans. You know they won't because they will wait until the election is definite. If they do a poll and Manchin would be ahead by 25 points, than he just might run.

I personally think that WVA Democrats should wait until 2012. This election year is toxic for Democrats already and in a state where Mccain won, that would be a chance I wouldn't want to take.

They should keep their existing laws and not change it like they did in Mass. After what happened in Mass. I can't believe that the AG or the governor in W VA would take a risk and have an election that could improve the chances of the GOP controlling the senate.

Even though our president realizes the republicans primary goal is to destroy him, regardless of consequences, he is still trying to get them to do what they are elected to do and that is represent our country and us.
Unfortunately, they will not comply and will continue to try and lead our country to further destruction. Their undying love and support for Wall St over our survival, irresponsible, hypocritical, destructive actions have made them a disgrace to our political system and our country.
