8/26/10; 500 likely voters, 4.5% margin of error
Mode: Automated phone
(Rasmussen: Governor, Senate)
67% Coburn (R), 24% Rogers (D)
52% Fallin (R), 37% Askins (D)
Fallin's the one with the most memorable comment this crazy political year "no poor person's ever given me a job". For a 20 year (since 1990) career politician I guess this means that the poor people who voted for her don't count. Politicians are given jobs by those that elect them...or...am I wrong about that?

I find it interesting that this race is closer than AZ.

OK is used to having a Dem Governor without the sky falling. Brad Henry has been governor for 8 years and is term-limited. He won his last election with 66% of the vote.
So that may account for part of it.
I don't know much about Askins...maybe some people in OK like her. She has an impressive resume in terms of prior experience (current Lt Gov, past Dem House leader, Pardon and Parole Bd Chairman and a Judge). No idea how moderate or not she may be.

I actually saw Jari the other day. She came here to Oklahoma State University. She's really likable and she's portrayed herself as the anti-politician centrist Oklahoma needs. I didn't vote for her in the primary because i didn't think she could win. Im still not convinced but she is a very nice lady and makes Mary Fallin look kind of like a loon in comparison. Hope she wins, but I wouldn't bet on it. Then again, she was 16 points behind Drew Edmonson in the primary and won by 1,500 votes. Makes you wonder if this poll could be like that.

I'm kind of shocked she beat Edmonson, whose name in OK must have carry similar weight to "Carnahan" in MO. She's not exactly an outsider given all her political experience; however she must have something going for her.
I agree that Fallon is a loon (comparatively speaking); her remark about poor people never having hired her can and should be repeated over and over; I think OK goes Republican this year but Dems need to make hay of every unforced Republican error. This is a big one.

Surprisingly, the local news here havent even covered the Fallin slipup. I first read about it online. The race is still remarkably low-profile. I wonder if Brad Henry will campaign for her. He is still a popular governor in all indications. Starting to endorse local candidates would also give him the clout that could propel him to the Senate in 2014. Hint, Hint if Henry's reading this.
