Obama's approval is not this bad in Oregon. If it were, I bet his approval nationally would be about 39 percent.

Well, his approval is that bad when the poll is done by a Republican operation, aka Magellen (R).

His numbers just can't be "that bad"...they just can't be...and yet in many polls they are

Back in 1994 the Dems needed 48% of the White vote to keep the House they got 45,but now in 2010 the Dems will need only 41% of the White vote to keep the House,in by 2020 the Dems will only need 37% of the White vote to stay in power. So it really dont make a difference what the Generic poll results are today. In 1994 the Gop was leading the Generic poll by 2% the last day before the election resulting in a 52 seat pickup by the Gop,but if the gop was leading the Generic poll by 2% this year the Gop is only going to pickup only 26 seats, because as the Minority vote rises the higher percentage of White voters the Gop have to get.In order for the Gop to recapture the House this year they have to be leading the Dems by at least 7% in the Generic poll.

Wait I thought Magellan was a private internal pollster only. Why are they releasing all these public polls now???

There's really nothing energizing about the Oregon Gov race. Dudley is a RINO anyways.

Melvin must be a short sighted or something; he's always talking about how the demographic changes favor the demorats. And I can assure him that Hispanic support for the dems will be temporary at best. If nothing is done about ILLEGAL immigration then yes by 2020 the dems will be in power by a diminishing white vote. However, what besides free handouts does a liberal agenda offer Latino’s? Once they are here and legal and able to freely take advantage of our resources then they will not need the dems or liberalism. They will shift our social politics further right then even I'm comfortable with, they may initially try a welfare state off habit but it will fail (see Europe) and austerity and conservative frugality with then prevail.

More Latino’s equals a more Catholic nation which is more pro life, pro traditional values. What does that have in common with liberal democrats?

As far as Oregon goes it’s more moderate than most think. It almost went to Bush in 2000. They had a GOP senator until a tough 08 year. I was born and raised near Seattle, so I'm familiar with both states. During big turnout years the dems will win hands down from how many more votes they get in Portland (same thing in WA with Seattle)but off year elections can be competitive in both states.

Oregon has the highest marginal state income tax in the country. It won't be long until they start driving out business like California and Michigan and the state starts losing population.

Dudley is a RINO which is great since OR is a lean-left state. But i'm sure there will be libies on here talking about how far-right the GOP is moving with their head in the sand regarding how far-left the Dems have moved and continue to move. Bayh didn't retire for absolutely no reason.

Seriously, why is this race close? John Kitzhaber has written more budgets than anyone in Oregon's history. Chris Dudley has written no budgets, but he has missed the most free throws in NBA history. John Kitzhaber has been in government for 25 years. Chris Dudley has never so much as been a community organizer. John Kitzhaber has many well laid-out plans. Chris Dudley has no plans to speak of. Does he not realize that being governor requires you to have a stance on the issues? Do 41% of voters not realize that? The governor's office is a huge pair of shoes to fill, and, while Chris Dudley probably does have gargantuan feet, I don't think he can be an effective governor. Why aren't people letting the issues be the issue?
