Pardon Our Dust
Mark Blumenthal | July 21, 2008
If you follow this site closely, you have probably noticed that my posts have been a bit sparse lately, and you may have experienced a few"site not available" error messages over the last week or two. Both issues are related to some changes on the site that will begin to become obvious in a few hours. We think you will approve what we have in store.
Meanwhile, we apologize in advance for one more brief service outage that you will encounter at about 9:00 p.m. Eastern time tonight (6:00 p.m. Pacific), as we make some changes to the "tubes" that bring you our site.
And tune in tomorrow (or later tonight) for a whole new Pollster.com...
Update (9:57 a.m EST): The new site is up, but we're working to correct a few bugs this morning, some obvious, most not. The most obvious is the presidential map scoreboard, which as commenter Holdek points out, incorrectly adds up to 553 electoral votes (it should total to 538). The "lean Republican" category has 15 electoral votes too many, the correct total should be 102, not 117. Thus, the total McCain electoral vote count should be 199, not 214.
For reasons having to do with file permissions, server issues and time zones that make my head hurt, we cannot change those scoreboard values, at least not for the moment. We'll also be a little delayed posting poll updates this morning.
But we'll have much more later this afternoon.

I like the new site. Very nice.
The new site is indeed great. I did notice that the VA link for presidential polls loads a blank page, however.
Love the new site. I've been hoping for a good election map throughout the year. We now have a great one. The style of the new site is also, excellent.
The presidential map is a bit confusing.
Rep: 214
Tossup: 46
Dem: 293
Total: 553
Yet there are 538 electoral possible electoral votes.
I've been thinking this site could use a nice flashy electoral map for awhile now, and when I saw this post my first reaction was "Oh good, just what I thought pollster needed, a nice redesign to better serve the general election!"
You can imagine that I'm glad to see a big prominent electoral college map on the front page then!
Too bad Pollster stopped following Presidential Approval.
If anyone is still interested in my latest approval numbers, you can still go to the following address:

Heckuva job, Pollster!
I defy anyone to find polls they want to look at. They changed from a simple, clear, direct organization of polls to an unorganized mess.
I defy anyone to even find the recent Prez national poll results on their sites.
I have to go over to http://www.realclearpolitics.com/ to find recent national polls -- but they don't have the nice trend analysis charts pollster USED to have.
How is it that Montana (46 to 43) is a toss up, while North Carolina (45 to 44) leans McCain?
Nice job!
I like the new setup much better. Looks good, too.
Just noticed that you are adding "MODE" to the polls. Thanks. I appreciate that info.
Ahh yes, the inter connecting tubes that make all this possible.
PS anyone check out the NPR story on the economic woes in OH?
