POLL: ARG National Primary

A new American Research Group national survey of likely primary voters (conducted 5/9 through 5/12) finds:

  • Among 600 Democrats, Sen. Hillary Clinton leads Sen. Barack Obama 39% to 22% in a national primary, former Sen. John Edwards trails with 19%.

  • Among 600 Republicans, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani runs at 28%, Sen. John McCain at 24%, and former Speaker Newt Gingrich at 13% in a national primary.

Does anyone know

1) Who is behind ARG;

2) What their methodology, crosstabs, or other details are; or

3) What their track record is?

My memory is that ARG's track record is mediocre. But their website is conspicuous in that it gives me no names, data, or anything else by which to judge their previous polling. All I remember is that their track record is undistinguished, and there is always *something* weird about their results relative to polling averages.

Their final poll for 2004 was Kerry 49
Bush 49

They consistently had Kerry ahead.

They were off by 3 PERCENTAGE POINTS ON THE RACE. They were near the bottom of all pollsters.

Chas Miller:

Here's the national ARG poll numbers from 12/26-28, 2003, three weeks before the Iowa Caucuses:

Dean 37
Kerry 19
Clark 12
Undecided 18

I hope they have traded-in their crystal ball from the last cycle.
