POLL: CNN National Primary

A new CNN/Opinion Research national survey (story, results) of 1,033 adults (conducted 1/9 through 1/10) finds:
- Among 397 registered Republicans, Sen. John McCain leads former Gov. Mike Huckabee (34% to 21%) in a national primary; former Mayor Rudy Giuliani also trails McCain at 18%, former Gov. Mitt Romney at 14%, former Sen. Fred Thompson at 6%, Rep. Ron Paul at 5%.
- Among 443 registered Democrats, Sen. Hillary Clinton leads Sen. Barack Obama (49% to 36%) in a national primary; former Sen. John Edwards trails at 12%.
- All other candidates receive less than five percent each. The margin of sampling error is 5% for registered Republicans and 4.5% for registered Democrats.

I think there's a typo in the Republican poll results - the numbers seem to add to 114%. I assume that Giuliani's number was supposed to be somewhere between 14 and 20%, which would make things add right.

the most significant aspect of this poll (at least as far as Dems are concerned) isn't who up, and who is down. Its that CNN has officially declared the Edwards candidacy dead.
I mean, when they ask a question "how likely do you think person X is to be elected president if they get the nomination", and you're name is not included in that list...you've been declared dead. (Thompson has also been declared dead.)
In other words, CNN has decided that the 2004 vice presidential nominee who came in second in the "crucial Iowa caucuses", is no longer worth wasting more time with than they have to.
And they are probably right. Not because Democrats don't like Edwards, but because he'd have to shoot OJ to get any of the kind of attention from the national media that confers "legitimacy" upon a candidate. The media loves the Hilbama soap opera, and that's all they can be bothered to report on.

In the last month, CNN has McCain +21, and Giuliani -6. Giuliani has gone from 1st to 3rd.

I dont believe the numbers - McCain may be on a roll but the sample size is too small wait for a few more polls to roll in before its believable - Heck who would trust anything from the Communist News Network!

Republican results total 98: 34+21+18+14+6+5. Maybe it was an earlier typo. But if you added an extra 9 & 11 to Guiliani ... 34 + 21 + (18 + 9 + 11) + 14 + 6 + 5 = 118!!!

wanna know how bad the coverage is. The single most qualified candidate...the guy who was slated to carry the tradional "minority candidate" banner in the media horse race coverage (under they got infected with Obamacitis) dropped out of the race.... and people don't even know about it.
