Gallup's numbers continue to be up and down. Compare them to Rasmussen Report over the last month. Now, Rasmussen does smooth things out by using a 4-day average, rather than a 3-day average, but they seem to have been more consistent over time.
The fact that the two tracking polls have diverged in opposite directions every couple of weeks suggests that most of the movement we are seeing is just noise.
Has someone made a graph showing the average of the two polls, perhaps extrapolating from the underlying daily numbers? That would be more interesting... and might remind us how much daily noise there is behind the artificially smooth trend lines.
