Colorado should be Udall 44, Schaffer 32 (undecided 25)

Come on, Minnesota - elect a professional comedian to the Senate!

RS, We're workin' on it.

After all, it's obvious that Jon Stewart is the only news worth taking seriously, so why shouldn't we take Franken for Senate seriously?

(See, I didn't even have to mention Ventura, did I?)

Dave:

Franken is much more a Satirist than just a comedian.

Actually what he is, is an encyclopedic dot connector. he's very hard working, and highly knowledgeable about any subject he takes an interest in.

contrast Franken to bush like coleman and franken wins the intelligence test hands down.

franken is an example of what we need in the senate.

Our Minnesota Senate race is very bizarre this time.

The state has been changing rapidly over the last decade, with a strong economy attracting people from all over the US into the Twin Cities Metro Area. It's now over half the state, which means old alliances between urban and rural partners have broken down as the power shifted.

More importantly, the people who made it possible are "outsiders", largely, moving to a state that used to be very insular and moving to its own strong sense of state culture.

That's a lot to digest, and the net result is a state that used to work very efficiently has started to founder. Witness the bridge collapse, for example - it's directly related to a high demand for services (in the old Humphrey/DFL school model) meeting a lot of pressure to keep taxes down (largely coming from new arrivals in suburbs). It's a long fight that is still in progress.

Enter this Senate race, with two very non-Minnesotan guys. Coleman won on a fluke, or is at the very least tainted by the terrible situation when Paul's plane went down. Franken? He has to make us think he's one of us, assume anyone knows who "us" is anymore.

No one knows how this will go, but everyone assumes it will be ugly. I'm not so sure, as we've rejected that in the past (having to reach as far as Ventura to do it). But the state is changing ...

I look for anything to happen. Last time this seat was up, we voted for Coleman over Mondale, fer goshsakes.
