political_junki: The reason is often that the questions about elections are just a very small block of items in a larger survey instrument. Even in Idaho, news organizations may be conducting opinion surveys on a range of issues ranging from environment to health to economic concerns. The marginal cost of adding a few additional questions on the horserace is quite small. And besides, it's newsworthy to report, for example, that McCain supporters are less worried about health insurance than Obama supporters (to take just one hypothetical crosstab).

@political_junki: actually with the typically red Montana and North Dakota going purple in the last couple of months, I think polls like this are important.
Sure all we see is the effect isn't going any further, but now we know for sure. Besides, it's not like Idaho had a ton of data to begin with.
Why do they poll states like this or Nebraska or California. Makes me wonder. Even senate races are not close enough to warrant the effort.
Any body any idea?
