Appalachia is definitely not pro-Obama, that's for sure. There was a recent article about this somewhere where several people interviewed in Appalachia actually came out and said they would not vote for a black person and most of their neighbors and friends would not either.

That is a rather scary thought that parts of this country are still of that mindset... but then I suppose we should take comfort in the knowledge they would at least vote for a woman.

At first I thought 10% were undecided, but if you click thru you will see that 7% plan to vote for "other".

Who are these people planning to vote for?! Even 10% of blacks say they will vote for someone else.

However, a 65/35 split looks quite probable, if Edwards is not in fact on the ballot.

SHADAR-

This is the type of racism that Obama is going up against - EVERYWHERE! It is just that in appalachia, they are large numbers of these kind of folks. And this whole wright mess gives people an easy outlet for their hidden racism, that's why you see his numbers drop. If he was white and had a relationship with a loony pastor (like MCCAIN), this wouldn't even be an issue. Many people are latent racists - and their support for Obama was tenuous at best. They were just waiting for a reason, any reason, not to vote for him - even if they liked his message.

He is a candidate that is ahead of his time. This country is not ready. Maybe they will be in the future.

Given the number of times Obama has used the race card, it's not surprizing Obama isn't getting support. For one example: Are they "clinging" to their religion (unlike the people who support them, their "clinging" gets Obama's praise)?

No matter how bitter it makes Obama supporters, Obama created much of this mess himself.

Well its pretty clear that America IS ready for Obama. Just because you don't have 100% of people voting for you doesn't mean America isn't ready. 47% of America approving of Barak Obama is a pretty sound signal in the general election polling. Places like Appalachia are more resistant to change as they have been for centuries.
