Yes, Washington has dubbed itself the "Evergreen State." And I noticed that Rossi is trying to "green" himself up even though one of his major campaign advisors has written a book that states climate change is a hoax.

Anyway... good news for Smith who is a progressive liberal Republican. Progressive anything does well in the Pacific Northwest. Rather governor or senator, a Republican has to be progressive and a greener to get elected... And this has been the way for decades.

I don't know much about Smith, but a quick perusal of his voting record shows he is anything but "progressive" --

For example:

NO on stem cells
YES on banning flag burning
YES on gay marriage amendment
YES to extend Bush tax cuts
YES on the Patriot Act
YES on Judge Alito
YES on Judge Roberts
YES to make it harder for people to file for bankrupcy

Gordon Smith is an incumbent... and notably the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, along with every other Oregon tribe, has already endorsed him... and not the Democratic candidate Merkley. So they must be very happy with his performance.
