POLL: Zogby Dem Iowa Caucus
Eric Dienstfrey | August 21, 2007
A new NewsMax/Zogby telephone survey of 503 likely Democratic caucus goers in Iowa (conducted 8/17 through 8/19) finds:
- Sen. Hillary Clinton leads former Sen. John Edwards (30% to 23%) in a statewide caucus; Sen. Barack Obama trails at 19%, Gov. Bill Richardson at 10%. All other candidates receive less than five percent each.
- "Among the very liberal, Edwards is the favorite, winning 29% to Obama's 25% and Clinton's 18%. But among mainstream Democrats, Clinton is the far and away leader with 39% support, compared to 22% for Edwards and 20% for Obama."

Newsmax/Zogby? What's next? Drudgereport/Gallup? Michelle Malkin/Quinnipiac?
Give me a break.

see now why are these numbers so different from the Hart numbers released last week that had Edwards leading? are Hart and Zogby using different methodologies?

Or could it be that Hillary's campaign in Iowa is starting to really take off?

Do we have any more info on voter screens? Is the "very liberal" more representative of primary voters? I mean, that's some sloppy voter screening as far as I can tell, no matter what.

Always a little leery of Zogby -- but should the Hart result even be included in the pollster composites?

No, chances are Zogby is talking to everyone: unlikely voters, independents, squirrels, etc. His likely voter screen is contractual at best and as you can see, it's clearly off. But NewsMax doesn't know the difference, so they're willing to pay for it and put their name on it.

Actually Hillary just started her tv ads in Iowa last week. Edwards and Obama have been on the air there for months. Hillary started last week. After the Hart poll had been done and before this one started. So this could reflect a strong first ad.

The top story on Newsmax right now, and I'm not kidding is that cholesterol is not linked to heart attack. This is not based on any peer-review study, but on the words of the doctor who writes a monthly health section for Newsmax.
I'm not sure if it's a joke or a story. You decide:

Hillary will finish a distant third in Iowa.
This poll is CRAPOLA, like most POLLS>.
