In NY state when a governor has a one night stand with a call girl, he steps down immediately, but I guess they do things a little different in SC. 2009 has been quite a year. Mark Sanford's dissapearance and dishonesty by leaving the country and admitting to he had a mistress in Argentina and he still keeps his job. I think he'll be re-elected. You can heckle the first African American commander and chief and look like a hero and recently you had Jim Demint stating that he wished he had been the one to heckle the president instead of Joe Wilson. That sounds like a state with great moral values, and I guess everything goes there!!!

I think to be completely honest, we need to remember that Bill Clinton did not step down after lying with cameras rolling and his finger pointing. Who really cares though? Part of being President means that you are going to encounter politicians that do not like you, and will say negative things about you. That being said, Joe Wilson's outburst was inappropriate but not illegal.

There is no existing written law about heckling a president during a speech, however there should be. Of course there is such a thing as free speech, but if a defendent or anyone heckles a judge during a court case they can be charged with a misdimeanor at the least. If people like Joe Wilson do that again, new laws could be passed. If Dennis Kucinich yelled at George W. Bush's Iraq speech, and said "You lie" the right wing would have called Kucinich a traitor and should be tried for treason.

I think I recall Chuck Schumer whispering to another lady senator during one of Bush's state of the Union's, but I had never seen such childlike behaviour from the opposition party last Sept. It wasn't just Joe Wilson, Rep Cantor looked like he was playing a game on his cell phone or texting, and the GOP senators looked like they had rehearsed it all when they held up the health bill. Players in the NFL have more courtesy than our politicians have. The opposing teams will shake hands and sometimes have a prayer at the end of the football game.
