The humidity is brutal!

Surprisingly timid numbers for the South...

It's not exactly the same question, but the 5 point lead here for a Republican Congress over a Democratic Congress in the South, the most Republican region of the country by far, appears to be inconsistent with the 4 point GOP lead in the generic ballot for the entire country. It's also interesting that there's little evidence of any shift in positions here since the election by either Obama or McCain voters.

That's the Gallup generic ballot question.

If the GOP leads by 5 points in the south on the Generic ballot that is a good sign. It probably means on a national level the dems would lead by 5. Besides, very few Democrats in the South really reflect president Obama anyhow. They are truly behind the times; Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana all have over 22 percent of their residents uninsured. That is pathetic. It is also pathetic that the conservadems want to opt out. That is why Deeds didn't get his northern VA liberal base to vote for him, was he tried to be conservative. That doesn't work anymore.

You would think the fattest, least educated region of the country would be even more politically backward than this poll indicates. Must be an outlier.

These are the same insults you guys unleashed against Christie and McDonnell....your name calling seems to be fading in itsability to convince anyone.

There are plenty of uneducated and fat people that live in the South that vote for the Democratic Party. I know, I live in Memphis. This town is full of poor, fat and stupid people and most vote straight Democrat.

I was in New York City just a few weeks ago and I saw plenty of fat stupid people.

In other words, there are fatties and dumba**es everywhere. Somehow though, the white South gets stereotyped constantly by the left and others in this country because apparently, white Southerners are the last group remaining in the country it is okay to make fun of. Just because many of us like to eat a little too much, still believe in a higher power and enjoy things like laying around on our ever widening rear ends, watching college football and going to the Wal Mart doesn't mean we are terrible people. I suspect that many who are the most negative on the South have never visited and know no one from the region.

Yeah these numbers are actually better than I thought for the South.

I do not understand why some people feel it necessary to crack on the south. This is one of most beautiful parts of the country, with some of the most beautiful people living here. The economy is doing fairly well in Texas, and I have noticed many folks from the midwest and northeast moving here. It cannot be as bad as some would make it out to be, or these people would not want to live here.

Seriously though, this poll is interesting but I'm not sure it can tell us much. I think the South is too complex a region to lump all these states together and expect a meaningful result from a single medium sized poll.
