Huchinson will in the long run be pleased she doesn't have to be governor of TX. I hate the excessive use of Capital punishment there, and how every governor has the potential to not commute the sentence of an innocent person. As someone who is not in favor of capital punishment other than in serious murder cases; child murder, serial killer, terrorist etc.

Luckily she doesn't have those life and death decisions as senator.

This primary is very likely to have a runoff if Medina's suport doesn't collapse.

Medina continues to increase her percentage, mostly pulling from Hutchinson. Last time KBH trailed Goodhair by 10, now it's 15.

This is strange...you'd think Medina, being the far right wing candidate, would pull from Perry.

" I hate the excessive use of Capital punishment there,"

It actually makes you more popular here, even when evidence shows a few years later the investigations show the evidence against the executed inmate was not conclusive. Yet Perry gained points by supporting the execution.

I know that Texas loves the death penalty. Other states in the south like NC and TN have an execution every 4 years. Texas used to have an execution every 4 months. I believe that Texas executed quite a few innocent people. I think that made me uncomfortable with Bush right from the beginning.

Two facts here:

1. This is a poll of the Governor's race, not the Senate. There is no Senate race this year in Texas.

2. In Texas the Governor only has the power to grant one 30 day commutation of a death sentence. If the Parole board disagrees, the governor lacks the authority.

However if the board does advise clemency, the governor does decide whether to grant it, this has been a particular failing on Perry's part.

I'm aware that the governor's powers are very limited. That's why it baffles me that Hutchinson would even want to run for governor, given that U.S. Senator is the better position.

But my point was that Perry showed no remorse about the execution of Cameron Todd Willingham, rather he praised the action, even after evidence came to light that cast doubt upon his sentence. And this was a net positive for him politically.

As for the case, I'm not saying Willingham was a good guy; he probably deserved a life sentence. But given the findings that question whether the fire that killed his daughters was arson, it goes to show that the death penalty is sought a little too eagerly in this state.

Perry wanted to secede from the USA... my take on that is go right ahead. I would join him in this cause, but the sheet he wanted me to wear didn't quite fit.

Yes, aside from the decisions concerning all of our military around the world.

I'd like to see a KBH win to trample Perry's chances at a Pres bid.

All I can say is if a democratic governor has said what Perry has said in the past year. The Republicans would be asking for him to be hung in his state capital. i don't understand how they get away with it. Palin's husband was part of the Alaskan secession party but they tried to pin Obama as the unamerican one. I hope she wins. Not a big fan of hers but she is the lesser of two evils.
