Obama has actually GAINED since the RNC started. Not good news for McLame. Sarah's speak last night will more than likely widen the gap tomorrow. Bad speach for moderates.
Obama has actually GAINED since the RNC started. Not good news for McCain. And Miss Idaho's speach last night will probably only widen the gap. Not a shining moment for her outside the knuckle dragging base.
Nay, I stand corrected. THIS is the beatdown of the year!

On Drudge...
37,244,000 WATCHED PALIN SPEECH ... [24,029,000 WATCHED BIDEN; 38,379,000 WATCHED OBAMA]
marctx
thanks fr the info. very reassuring and a little surprising . did you know that over 90% of the european journalists sent their correspondents home after the dnc figuring he'd win hands down?
is that not hysterical? the international financial times left one man standing to cover the rnc and suggests that they were that sure it wasnt worth the coverage.
we'll see about that. your neilsen ratings may just be the first bit of egg flung in their smug faces.
of course more people watched Sarah Palin shes a freakshow. I was curious to a 44 year old grand mother running for VP
Marc, yes, huge ratings. Too bad they didn't take the opportunity to actually introduce her. I'm sure this played absolutely great with the base, but far more than the base were watching, and it didn't play well with the people that mattered most. It was a lost opportunity to present Palin as a human instead of a person that reads lines from a script that someone else wrote.
I must say that leading up to the speech, the thing that worried me the most as an Obama supporter was the potential oppoortunity for a small town type politician to come out on a national stage and really show that she was just like the rest of us, but also a strong and effective communicator. This is what Huckabee does great and why he gets so much traction (though not necessarily yesterday). That didn't happen at all.
She wasn't even the best presenter of the night. As far as good deliveries go, Romney and Guliani gave essentially the same speeches, and they were good at giving such speeches (as such speeches go). They actually live and die by this stuff, and Palin doesn't.
Pollster just put up an article about how Palin is doing so far:
http://www.pollster.com/blogs/omero_the_palin_effect_prelimi.php
While I definitely believe it is unfair to compare the campaigns after one convention and just in the middle of the other, the concerns expressed and the strengths gained by Obama-Biden were not at all addressed by last night's speech.
When you throw the Hail-Mary, you actually have to throw the football at the right player.
The lack of Republican convention bounce thus far is not that troubling. What is troubling is the lack of fading of Obama's bounce. Tomorrows polls, which start to respond to Palin, will be very, very interesting. Her speech was aimed to the base, not swing voters, so while well-received, its an open question how it will translate to votes.
@boskop
You need to get a new source for your information. Your numbers are made up.
I'm betting pretty heavily that you are one of those crackpots that think that there was a conspiracy to destroy 7 World Trade Center. Am I correct?
Snowspinner, I think that article nailed it on the head. McCain thought he could throw any old female out there, experienced or not, and assume a large majority of women (independents and moderate dems specifically) would rally around the pick. Not so. I'm sure many women feel insulted that McCain would think so little of them as individuals. But he's been playing the misogynist role for awhile now. Too bad the convention couldnt end last night. I'm sure McCain's speach tonite will negative whatever positives may have happened last night.
There's gonna be a bounce. 37.2 million viewers....almost as much as obama....and his was covered by 10 networks, her sonly 6 covered it.....bounce baby bounce!
I heard a good one just now from a co-worker.
Why is the media and Obama campaign attacking Palin's 17 year old daughter? Because they finally found someone there own size to pick on!
I heard a better one from a colleague-
What do a pit bull and Sarah Palin have in common?
They are both lying dogs.
ROTFLMAO!!
Yeah there's going to be a bounce allright......for Obama.
Maybe you clowns that quote drudge should go back and quote this:
"PALIN RAISES MONEY -- FOR OBAMA!
**Exclusive**
Obama scores $8 million since Palin's speech from over 130,000 donors - on pace to hit $10 million by the time John McCain hits stage, campaign says... Developing..."
Yeah, that's from the drudgereport. LOL.
Thanks for the lies and despicable attacks Sarah! We love you!
Bramster -
No, when you throw a hail mary, you need to throw a football. McCain wandered off the field, to a nearby fruit market, picked up a kumquat and launched it two feet at a fire hydrant.
He's gone off the range.
FFler-
Ms. Baby-Grandma-Drama has done a great job getting the neanderthal/creationist/flat-earth lot "energized".
Too bad there aren't that many of them this time around. Dem registration outpaces repubs significantly. This puppy is over. The only shot Mccain had was picking romney or maybe huckabee. But palin is a sacrificial lamb. she will be taken down and never heard from again. Where is dan quayle these days???????
Yes - the GOP lost a HUGE opportunity with 37M tuning in to see a viscous pit bull attacking people she has never even met! Sarah Clampett could have won som hearts of moderates by being more inclusive, and she could have won some independent minds with just a little bit of economic meat, but they went with the full metal jacket approach. It pleased the hall... solidified the base...and did nothing to reach across the isle.
@Brutus
LOL!!!
"No, when you throw a hail mary, you need to throw a football. McCain wandered off the field, to a nearby fruit market, picked up a kumquat and launched it two feet at a fire hydrant."
Guys, i LOVE that 38 mil watched it. The speech worked to alienate independents and moderates so the more of them that watched it, the better.
I have also heard that GOP basically knows it can't win this year and is using Sarah as an expendable sacrifice to the gods in 2008. Who wants to run with a McCain and lose... it kills your chances to ever run again... (Edwards, Lieberman...) Romney, Huckabee, even Pawlenty could run agian in 2012 without a tag as a "loser".
@Scott
You might want to drink less kool aid and avoid far left blogs if that is what you heard....
Stillow
unless something totally unusual happens:
+2 max - 6.
why? The Democratic Party came home and is still solidifying. McCain's core Republican vote was already largely consolidated, not much more to pick up. For McCain's numbers to bounce he has to pick up disaffected Democrats, Indies, and Obama leaners. The Dems have also got to stop solidifying.
Well, lets deal with each group with the message to date he's actually more likely to lose say former Hillary supporters than gain any. The Hillary defectors if you like had already defected, I expect possibly some in the McCain column to come home!
Independents are not going to be attracted by Palin's style of politics "who the H .. does she think she is"? They are not evangelicals so more likely pushed towards Obama. They need something to vote for rather than against. Where are the policies to meet the issues?
Obama leaners - they seem to think Palin is frightening. You know she didn't give credit where it was due and came accross at best a distorter and at worse a liar.
Lastly, Palin and Obama make McCain look old- very old. There are no policies just negative bluster entwined with smaltz. Where's the beef?
I am a pit bull. What a message from McCain via Palin.
Get off my lawn, you deadbeats, or Sarah Palin will bite you! Get a job! Who cares if the rich get richer and the poor poorer? There's your evolution, baby! The government can't help you! Where's my gun? We don't like your kind of people. Cowboy up! Regulations? Hah!
2008 is looking more like 1932 all the time
The fact that Mrs. Palin has degraded the community organizer is crazy. Mrs. Palin doesn't seem to understand the inner city, or the issues that confront the people that live there everyday. I understand she was a mayor, and a governor, and she had to figure out budgets, and taxes. She never had to fight drug dealers, or figure out how to help a family get jobs after their job was sent over seas. Mrs. Palin is blinded to the facts the she is out of touch with the majority of America. Alaska is big, but the population does match the area. I am not degrading her, I am just saying she could be out of her league.

Perhaps THE beatdown of the YEAR!!!
