Xenobion:

There is a pretty cool comparison poll from the Clinton years and people's favorability towards heathcare reform in the cross-tabs.

Wish they would ask if people would rather 'submit claims' or 'hold' private health insurance of a public option. Fox asked this once the response was overwhelming for private insurance.

My guess is some that favor a public option simply want more competition in the marketplace.

People want public option. Period! It is not for you to open their heads and surmise that they may be thinking about creating competition. Unless yoy think Americans are stupid. People know what they're hoping for and there4 are demanding it. There's no otherway to bring that kind of competition we're waiting for.

Yes, I'm surprised at how little has changed. Although it seems that this time, the gap between approve and disapprove is much tighter and more consistent. It jumped around more in 1993-94.

What it does show is that taking too long will only reduce the chances of passage, and the fact that Clinton's bill never even got out of committee speaks volumes, given that at times, he had much more public support for it than Obama ever did. Obviously, as time went on and Clinton failed to deliver, people lost faith and turned against him.

Obama seems to have learned the Clinton lessons quite well, and understands much more clearly how to strike with his political capital while the iron is hot. The tea partiers and town hall screamers may have unleashed their fury too soon.

People don't really want the public option. They want something different. The public option is the biggest item on the table. On the other hand people do not trust the govt with their health care. And the price tag is enough to scare anyone. BO wants to keep it below 900 Billion.

No wonder you get polls all over the place.

This message I am sending is for all of you who either voted for Obama in 2008 or any other Democratic candidate for US Senate, the House or Governor. To all Centrists, Democrats or progressives it is Fox news that has organized well and decieved the public that health care costs will lead to rationing, death panels, taxing the middle class, and will lead to our deficit.

I want to say that Fox, Limbaugh and even local newspapers and media markets have given time to focus groups who want to convince people that health care will be rationed and there will be a huge government takeover. First off the Public option may not pass unfortunately, but we need reform. The right wing will twist the facts and make it sound like it will cost more money to improve health care. The number of the uninsured is growing tremendously and for those who are happy with their insurance need to think again. 40,000 Americans die a year from not having health care and that may not sound a lot to conservatives but it is almost as many people who died in the Vietnam war. Many non-partisan sources have concluded the more adjusted senate bill that Senator Snowe supported in the committee, would not lead to our deficit. Limbaugh, Fox News and other sources will try to twist the truth, but I will stand firm and not let them win!
