It seems that including the word "federal," instead of saying just "goverment" significantly improves the amount of support for the public option.

This polls clearly shows that majority of Americans favor the public option. Democrats and independents overwhelmingly favor the public option. Period! Only Republicants have demonized the public insurance option to compete with the private insurance cos. I hope the "Blue Dog" democrats are watching these polls.

Every citizen knows that "federal goverment" is the same as the word "government" in the US. It's the same Uncle Sam. However, it's very simplistic to claims the word "federal" improved the numbers for the public options.

Just remember that in 2012 words like federal and government will probably mean Pawlenty or Palin.

Also Palin could easily end up with control of your internet.

Be careful what you ask for.

"Federal" is more specific and informative than "government" (which is itself, admittedly, more specific and informative than "public").

I disagree. When the polls are phrased "government-run" or something like that, the results are lower. Saying something like "administered by the federal government" brings better results.

This tells me that the word "government" or the idea that government can't do anything right is a meme that people believe. Kind of like how "liberal" and "socialist" are bad words to many Americans.

Americans are now more tuned in than ever and see through the tricky wording. Frankly I think most people are even insulted by the word play.

Remember-Even if you put lipstick on a pig, its still a pig. Don't you hate how words can come back to haunt you.

As I mentioned earlier be very careful what you ask for. Obama WILL NOT be pres. forever. What ever amount of power and control he takes over your personal life will be eventually be given to the GOP. Not such a good idea now is it.

I am surprised the public option still enjoys broad majority support. So much for "shredding" health care reform in August.

Now let'see what September brings. The Dems are poised for a counteroffensive.

Great news for the public option on this poll. I hope the media will report these findings. They went gaga over the WSJ/NBC poll that found results detrimental to the public option.

BOMBSHELL:Supreme Court now has Obama Citizenship
AP- WASHINGTON D.C. - In a move certain to fuel the debate over
Obama's qualifications for the presidency, the group Americans for Freedom of
Information has Released copies of President Obama's college transcripts from Occidental College Released today, the transcript indicates that Obama, under the name Barry Soetoro, received financial aid as a foreign student from Indonesia as an undergraduate at the school.

The transcript was released by Occidental College in compliance with a court order in a suit brought by the group in the Superior Court of California . The transcript shows that Obama (Soetoro) applied for financial aid and was awarded a fellowship for foreign students from the Fulbright Foundation Scholarship
program. To qualify, for the scholarship, a student must claim foreign citizenship.

This document would seem to provide the smoking gun that many of Obama's
detractors have been seeking. Along with the evidence that he was first born in Kenya and there is no record of him ever applying for US citizens hip, this is
looking pretty grim. The news has created a firestorm at the White House as the release casts increasing doubt about Obama's legitimacy and qualification to serve as president..

When reached for comment in London , where he has been in meetings with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Obama smiled but refused comment on the issue.

Britain 's Daily Mail also carried the story in a front-page article titled, Obama
Eligibility Questioned leading some to speculate that the story may overshadow economic issues on Obama's first official visit to the U.K.

In a related matter, under growing pressure from several groups, Justice Antonin Scalia announced that the Supreme Court agreed on Tuesday to hear arguments concerning Obama's legal eligibility to serve as President in a case brought by Leo Donofrio of New Jersey

This lawsuit claims Obama's dual citizenship disqualified him from serving as president. Donofrio's case is just one of 18 suits brought by citizens demanding proof of Obama' s citizenship or qualification to serve as president.

Gary Kreep of the United States Justice  Foundation has released the results of their investigation of Obama's campaign spending.

This study estimates that Obama has spent upwards of $950,000 in campaign funds in the past year with eleven law firms in 12 states for legal resources to block disclosure of any of his personal records. Mr. Kreep indicated that the investigation is still ongoing but that the final report will be provided to the U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder. Mr. Holder has refused to comment on the matter.

I had a couple of minutes to kill, so I did a search. The supreme court decided in Dec 2008 to not hear the case you are referencing.

If I paid a little closer attention to the news, I would have remembered that BO's first official trip to the UK was some time in the past.

Jeez isn't the birther thing getting old. You know politico supposedly reported that Pres. Obama will pull the public option off the table. Man what a coward of a president if he does so.

Obama won't "pull it off the table." He'll just say what he always says, that it isn't a deal-breaker. It SHOULD be a deal-breaker, but we didn't elect a firebrand left-winger, we elected an incrementalist whose first instinct is always compromise, and that's just the way it is. More important to this process is how the liberal wing of the party in the House will react to a bill that DOESN'T include the public option, and whether Baucus will allow a partisan bill to escape his committee. It went mostly unreported, because the media was too busy being an echo chamber for the hysterical anti-reform fringe, but Baucus said recently that health care reform will happen this year, with or without the GOP. That's quite a shift in rhetoric. Maybe he feels stabbed in the back by his "good friend" Chuck Grassley.

In the midst of this debate, people tend to forget that reform is almost a reality, 80% of the way there, which is as close as it has ever been. Reform bills have passed 4 out of 5 necessary committees, with Finance being the one holdout. Pelosi has the votes to pass HR 3200 in the House, even without a number of Blue Dogs. The only hurtle left, after Baucus clears the Finance bill, is reconciling the versions and rounding up 60 votes to break a filibuster, even if those cloture-voters don't support the final bill, because the GOP is sure to oppose any health care reform on principle alone. (By which I mean of course, utter lack of principle.)
