Stephen_W:

More good numbers for Obama and the healthcare reform bills. Why he took so long to address the public like this is anybody's guess, but it's hard to argue that it didn't help his cause. I forget which Republican pollster noted that Reps do better when they attack Democratic policies and not Obama himself, but clearly it's being reinforced by these numbers.

No other pollster has Obama near 58%.

It would appear the political demise of President Obama has been greatly exagerrated

True. This could be an outlier (most have him at 53-54% now), but there seems to be a real bounce since the speech, can't argue with that based on the recent polling.

He got a bounce from the speech and the good media coverage. Just as everyone expected. In two weeks, the bounce will have subsided. Bill Clinton used to give these great speeches about healthcare back in '93 and '94 and get good bounces in the polls and then the numbers would go back into the toilet.

As for the 58% approval rating, that is to be expected of a CNN poll. They always are an outlier (a positive one) for Obama, just like the CBS News/New York Times polls.

58% is an outlier...to what?? 53%?

Isn't that what Obama won in his very, very comfortable win against McCain/Palin? You remember that election where he won North Carolina and Indiana?

If 58% is an outlier and the consensus is that his true approval is around 53-54% then I can relax for the rest of the day and let you guys fight about this...

Right wing attacks aren't working - they're only succeeding to prop up the GOP's most extreme personalities (Palin, Beck and now Wilson).

Who are they going to run in 2012?? Who?????
