This poll is pretty accurate I think. Funny that they have such small numbers of favorability.

Farleft I think they use what Rasmussen does and has 4 different answers: highly, somewhat; somewhat, highly. Not sure though.

There goes the theory that Obama is soft on terrorism. 55-34 is pretty good. When the GOP is in power though, foreign policy seems to be all we hear about with their latest military pet projects. They seem to always get percieved by the media as being the party of the cia, the military and others.

The Democrats have to be responsible for those things to a degree plus doing other magical things like pass health care, reduce unemployment at a faster rate than would be for a GOP administration. The Dems also give tax cuts, but not to the very rich.

Obama has strong terrorism numbers across many polls. The GOP attack has thoroughly failed. The economic environment is killing him though. He will be in the high 30s by summer. The good news for him is that most private forecasters expect employment to get much better by 2012.

Something looks fishy about that approve/disapprove number for independents. There is no way they are evenly split. On the same token, the split of 30% dem, 28% rep, and 42% ind. That's a little low on the dem and high on the ind. It appears that in this polls, people who used to call themselves dems now call themselves inds but still lean toward Obama.

With the party breakdown, Obama's approval would actually be 44.5% and they rounded it up to 46% - which is understandable since it is CBS/Times. Fudging an extra 1% is much smaller than they usual for them.

There seem to be a lot of discrepencies when you dig into the details of the poll.

One interesting results kills the theory that Obama's approval numbers are tied to the economy. When his approval was at 70%, 94% of the people thought the economy was bad. In this poll, only 83% think its bad. Yet his approval in this poll in only 46%.

This argument is silly. When his approval was at 70% he hadn't been in office that long and unemployment was lower.

O is headed for the low 40's. He has successfully pissed off the right, the center and now the left. His hope and change nonsense fro mthe election is wearing thin on people. His first year i noffice was a failure with no accomplishment that are noteworthy except a $800B slush fund disguised as a stimulus bill which has been a failure.

Everyone wanted to know what Carter's second term would have looked like? We are in it now.

How is that hope and change working out for all you O voters who thought he was gonna pay your mortgage and car payments for you? Still waiting o nthe check?

He will be in the low 40's by the start of summer.

Blaming Bush for everything might get you elected, but i cannot keep you elected.

The problem during Carter's term was high inflation. We had deflation for most of 2009. Very different situation.

I think this has to do more with the fact that the Christmas attack failed. If that bomb has not failed, these numbers would be very different. With that said, no successful attack is good by any measure.

"The economic environment is killing him though. He will be in the high 30s by summer. The good news for him is that most private forecasters expect employment to get much better by 2012."

I think this is very true. No matter what they do it will be better than it is now, but at the same though, if everyone in Washington went to sleep for the next 3 years things would be more imroved. I've always thought that Reagan's whole "Are you better off than you were 4 years ago" question missed the real point. What should be asked is "Did my policies over the past 4 years make things better than what would have happened if he had been in office?"

How was conservatism working for Reagan in '81-'83? His poll numbers were embarrasing, so I guess Americans rejected Reagonomics, right? Thats also why he was a one-term president, right?
