Ouchie on the Indy approval.............

If I'm not mistaken, this is the first poll in a long time that shows Palin with a net positive favorable rating.

Also I think Gingrich usually polls much lower.

Not much in the crosstabs to judge this poll by. Other than the Ind. approval number, which saw a wild swing, 12 points or so. All the other numbers are basically unchanged from the last two months in this poll. The D/R/I split is about the same. The D/R preference for the 2010 elections is the same margin they've had for several polls. Approval for Pelosi, the congress, etc.. the same since September. If health care was the reason for Obama's decline, I'd expect their approvals to decline as well.

The people who believe polls like this one, especially on the topic of Palin's approval and Party ID are like the people who believe the world is flat and the holocaust didn't happen.

Did all of the independents just become Republican? 36% Republican and 20% Independent. No wonder the results are so skewed.

Looks like it wouldn't matter too much if there were more Indies and less GOP... The indies think he sucks at his job too. Maybe he will start to govern like a real American president now....but I don't think so. He'll scorched earth it to the end to get this health powergrab passed.

Good to know that Oprah polls so well - even among Republicans.

On an unrelated note, that the sample includes 36% republicans would suggest that these results be taken with a grain of salt. I could see 36% indies and 20% reps, but, as it stands, I'm not sure the sample in the this poll corresponds to the general populace.

Palin is not at 47 approval...she is at 47 favorable...a big big difference between someones job approval and there favorable rating.

GOp sample is to high, but with Indy's moving against him so hard it would not matter.

Lets not lose sight of the fact that the sample is RV. Not adults, not LV, but RV, so a bit of a skew makes sense.

I'm also taking that Independent rating with a whole spoonful of salt, given that its 10 points off the average of every other independent rating recent. The sample of independents is less than 180, and at that level the confidence levels go way up.

Prediction- Sarah Palin will be 65/35, Obama will be the reverse at 35/65 by mid the 2010. Palin is already getting high favs and shes just getting started. Libs watch out, theres a caribou barbie coming after you.

Taurus, I'd love to bet you that Obama's favorable ratings will be higher than Palin's every week over the next 3 years. I know that we can't bet here, but maybe we can both remember this challenge next year.

I highly doubt these polls are scientific. As far as Obama's approval, they are probably correct. He was out of the country and America has lots of unanswered questions. Democrats in contrast to Republicans have a tougher task of being expected to make significant change in implementing new programs; republicans have historically been the party of less spending on government programs, yet greater spending and borrowing on collective security and defense as well as on the recent Iraq conflict. Obama was dumped with the greatest deficit of all time, an ecomony that was on the verge of a depression, my God, no president since FDR has had this much on their plate. I don't think Obama deserves to be compared to Clinton, Kennedy, and LBJ because they had many economic advantages Obama doesn't have. Reagan in contrast was at a approval rate that was about this low during the recession of the 1980's and he ends up winning 2 years later, 49 states.

No Way Sarah Palin will be at at a majority approval rating. For some social conservatives she is a great sidekick and knows how to make money. Her husband is happy to have a wealthy wife, but since Saxby Chambliss in his run off last December, only Hoffman the candidate in NY 23 asked her to campaign with him. He lost in a district where the GOP outnumbers Democrats 2-1. Neither NJ and VA gubernatorial candidates asked Palin to campaign with them. They ended up winning. That tells you right there that Palin defys intelligence, logic and has a political vision you can understand.

The obvious is that this is a Fox poll. The poll size is too small to take seriously and party ID is skewed a few points in the Republican favor (no great suprise). The independent numbers do not match anything else out there so I will just look at this as an outlier.
