For all you left wingers who think an investigation shoul dbe done of the Bush officials on this issue, read these two articles from your own liberal media.
The first is where the CIA flat out admits waterboarding directly prevented a major attack on Los Angeles.
http://www.cnsnews.com/Public/Content/Article.aspx?rsrcid=46949
The second one is a story in the Post about pelosi knowing for years about these methods which included water boarding.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitol-briefing/2009/05/cia_says_pelosi_was_briefed_on.html
I find it repulsive the liberals are trying to politisize national security. They'd rather put their hatrid of Bush over our secuirty. These people are as Un-American as it gets, they should be ashmed of themselves, Pelosi should be impeached from her position for what she has been doing on this issue.
And for your liberals who think the army field manual is sufficient, get your heads out of the sane and read the article from CNN, if not for these methods an attack on L.A. would have taken place.
Pelosi and the rest of you liberals who want a witch hunt sicken me....liberals are directly putting this country in danger and they do not care about it, they are more intrested in just hunting down Bush. Absolutely repugnant!

cns news is not the same as cnn news.

Sorry, just a typo....similar articles are found on CNN and in the WSJ.....the point remains valid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever anybody will say to support torture or to make a case that it ostensibly work cannot be trusted. Many research & investigations have said time & time again that torture cannot be used gain valuable intel info. No matter what the above would like us to believe. It's unethicall and unchristian to torture. There're better ways of gaining valuable intel w/out torture.
Posted on May 8, 2009 12:10 PM
You sir are unamerican. First off its not torture, I do not consider and most Americans do not consider the temporary discomfort of a terrorist to be torture....you have warped the meaning of torture, and its disgraceful.
You are basically saying the CIA is lying when they say the use of waterboarding directly prevented an attack on Los Angeles. Your sick and twisted liberal view of the world is going to get us killed, had we listened to your nonsense then L.A. woudl have been attacked and God knows how many would have been killed....oh but I guess that is ok isn't it? Who cares if American civillians die...as long as we don't expose terrorists to discomfort!!!
Yur iberal views on this are sick, they are warped, they are insane and they are goign to lead to future attacks.
You can call the CIA liars if you want, you can put the comfort of terrorists above that of American lives if you want, just thank God you are in the minority and when the info gets out to the people in mass, people like you who hold these sick views will be pushed aside for common sense.
If yu want to see torture, please visit jails in Mexico, China or any number of Aarab prisons. We do not torture, watebroarding is not torture...is it harsh, you bet it is...that is called war. This is not a war we started no matter what yu liberals think...and in a war you have to actually FIGHT. Your weak policies of appeassement and accomodation only lead to the loss of that war.
How on earth did you liberals develop such a moronic view of reality. You'd rather let them attack a city like Los Angeles than waterboard a terrorist who we knew had information.
Its disgusting and yes, it is unamerican to put the comfort of the enemy above the lvies of your fellow citizens....because in this case the CIA flat out declares they were unable to get the info from other techniques.
What the hell happened to you liberals to make you hate your own country so much and to do everything you can to comfort the enemy instead of doing what needs to be done to protect your own damn country!

@stillow
I think its dispicable that your trying to cover the tracks of cheney and bush, they ran a torture program, there will more pictures coming out soon!
Posted on May 8, 2009 2:09 PM
Stillow is a Typical Neo-Con apologist.
"Waterboarding is not torture. And even if it is torture, it's okay, because we were protecting the country."
Nice try, but there are better ways to get reliable info.
Posted on May 8, 2009 2:24 PM
Right, you guys know, the CIA is full of a bunch of idiots....just cus they said all the toehr techniues didn't work....KSM repeatedly gives the answer"Soon you'llsee" when he asked baout toehr attacks, then they waterboard and ge thte info to stop it.
Maybe next time it won't be New York, it will be your city, or a city where your family lives and works in. Maybe then your morons will wake up to reality. Lincol suspended rights, Trum,an dropped the atomic bomb, war is hell. I was in the original Desert Storm in 91 and it sno fun.
So ya maybe you people won't wake up til someone in your fmily is killed. Waterboarding is not torture, freinds of mine who served i nthe rangers were waterboarded as part of there training. Its more frightening than painful.
Maybe when they attack San Francisco you people will wake up....army field manual doesn't get you info....and the CIA has said numerous times all techniques failed on KSM except waterboarding and that intelligence was used to prevent an attack on L.A....what more do you fools want?
You liberals are totally oblivious!!!!!! You call the CIA liars, you call Bush a liar, can you do anythign except make accusations?
I just do not understand how you liberals came to hate your own country so much that you value the comfort of terrorists, people who wan tto kill innocent people above the safety of your own country...esecpially with technology becoming more accessible and nuclear armed countries like Pakistan in total chaos....we all know forces in the pakistan g'ment are sympathetic with terrorists...and this country has nuclear weapons. You ignore the beheadding or reporters, you ignore the deaths of 3000 americans on 9/11 and instead you hate bush so much that you want to blame america for doing what it needs to do to protect itself.
My God, its terrifying that people lik you guys exist in this country who have zero conectp of what war is, why they are fought or how to defend yourselves.
Don't be mean to the terrorists, don't make them uncomfortable....go ahead and let thousand of Americans die, jus tkeep the terrorists nice and comfy!
I always here there ar other ways, what toehr ways would that be? asking pretty please instead of just please?
Total morons!
Posted on May 8, 2009 2:55 PM
Stillow,
Maybe next time our president will pay attention to memos that state "Bin Ladin determined to strike inside US".
Our intelligence services work just fine as long as there is someone reasonably intelligent at the helm of government.
Posted on May 8, 2009 3:28 PM
Again back to Bush....you guys are so lost in your blind hatrid for Bush you refuse to accept anything as logical. Even the 9/11 commission stated our intelligence capacities were dminished in the 90's....I don't like Bush very much either on all his social programs and spending, but he was correct to do what he needed to do with respect to the war on terror....you guys have got to get off your hate bush wagon for a few minutes, because beleive it or not there are actaully real enemies facing this nation and hating Bush haas to take a back stead to protecting the nation.
Bush kept this nation safe for 7 years following 9/11....the WTC had been attacked before, but as time went on the terrorists became more creative and more efficient and that is goign to continue to be the case....for the love of God and this country, put your hate for bush on hold for a minute and recognize the threats.....let the CIA do its job that it tells you it must do in order to keep us safe. you people seem to think 9/11 was just a one time fluke......this is serious stuff and lives are at stake here, balming bush or hating bush isn't goign to keep us safe or stop further attacks....if the CIA says these techniques are vital to gatehering critical and vital info, then I beleive them and I support what they need to do. I as an american will NOT put the comfort aof a terrorist above the lives of my fellow citizens...maybe you guys do, but me and most americans will not do that.
stop pointing fingers and wake up.

The rantings of a party that has lost direction.
The rebranding efforts is even laughable and Boss Rush has discredited it already.
Posted on May 8, 2009 5:24 PM
You guys are hopeless....again I guess its goign to take antoehr attack and the death of some of your family members before you wake up to reality.....that saddens me greatly to have to say that, but you people simply do not get it.
Every thing and I mean "everything" to you people, including the safety of the country takes a back seat to your hatrid of Bush. You guys are politisizing everything....at least this time Pelosi got caught with her hand inthe cookie jar....she shoudl resign in disgrace.
You guys are just hopeless.

Our economy is not out of the woods yet but there's good signs thing are changing for the better. Almost all my friends who lost their jobs have been rehired in most cases by the same employer. These people don't care about the so-called fight about small or big govt. What they care about is jobs. The politicians will continue to argue about small v. big govt; tax cut for big biz & rich v. progressive tax system, where big biz & the rich are raxed more, etc. What I care about is working system. I'm not a straight jacket so you can't put e in a box.
Posted on May 8, 2009 6:01 PM
Anyways, the dow gained 165 points today. are you happy Stillow?
Posted on May 8, 2009 6:09 PM
Again with the BS Los Angeles story. The Bush Administration has claimed, on multiple occasions, that the library tower plot was nixed in February 2002. KSM was captured and waterboarded in March 2003. Unless that waterboard had a flux capacitor on it, this claim is wrong.

These nutjobs will try to misrepresent the facts to gain traction. I don't Americans will give 'em a break this time around. I want us to move on though.

How do you people even get dressed in the morning? On one hand you want the g'ment to run your lives and you put your total trust in them....then when the CIA tells you certain things are necessary for your safety, you pick and choose what you want to elive.
Pelosi already got busted on this. Obama is already restarting militry tribunals, Gitmo is not closed and it will never close despite the rhetoric of Obama and Holder....because no one wants these terrorists and you can't just release them. The same things you guys railed Bush for seems to suddenly be all roses when Obama does the same thing.
Big spending by Bush was bad, but hey, big spending by Obam ais a good thing! The pure idiocy coming from you guys is amazing!
A one day jump in the dow is good? Heheeh, I'm still waiting for soem of my tech stocks to recover from the 2000 bust under Clinton.
I am glad for your freinds getting their jobs back, right wingers or left wingers, I want everyone to have a job....hopefully they all got raises too, cus there income won't mean much when inflation kicks in from the over spending....in addition most of obama's spending hasn't even hit yet. the free markets aeare correcting themselves as they always do.
Dems are in trouble everywhere, pelosi got busted, Dodd is in big trouble, the blithering idiot barney Frank, multiple Dems in ethics investigations, the scareforce 1 flyover....all in all, I guess it snot ad....we repalced GOP corruption with Dem corruption...oh yay. Hopefully in 2010 we can get fiscal conservatives back in to clean up this mess Obama and Bush have spent us into.
Keep it coming though, I do love the insanity you guys bring to the table. Its really good stuff, militarytribunals are evil! Oh wait, Obama is doing them, well then they are the greatest things ever! Bush is evil for spending to much, oh wait, Obama has run up more debt than Bush could dream of, well that's actually a good thing!
Drink something other than the kool aid guys. I know by default you cannot think for yourselves, you rely on the g'ment to do that for you, but isn't there a part of you guys that wants to try?
Inflation, double digit unemployment and intrest rates will be rising to to accomdoate the spending....ahhhh yes, just what everyone wanted was to return to the Jimmy Carter days!
Posted on May 9, 2009 3:33 PM
Good to see people on here with no general election looming.
Looking at the question in this poll, it is NOT asking if you approve of the interrogation methods that were used. It is more like do you want to criminalize policy differences. Given that, I am somewhat surprised that 42% favored the idea to some degree.
That is a dangerous path to go down. Does that mean any R elected in 2012 can prosecute Obama for "bending" the constitution by using public money to buy car companies and giving them to the unions?
The 19% is the far left that still toss and turn all night over the 2000 election. Here we are over 8 years later and you guys still give me belly laughs.
Posted on May 10, 2009 6:08 PM
It's only the rightwing nutjobs who know who is American & who's unAmerican.
Posted on May 11, 2009 10:52 AM
Breaking the Geneva Conventions is not a "policy difference." It is a war crime.
The treaty is binding under U.S. law and the constitution.
The question should read, "do you approve or disapprove investigating possible war crimes?"
Now, I'm sure 27 percent would still be strongly opposed -- because they favor torture.
But it is illegal under U.S. law no matter who is president, and remains that way no matter how many conservatives think its good use the same interrogation guidelines as the Khmer Rouge, Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union.
Posted on May 11, 2009 11:33 AM
Again, its not torture. Temporary discomfort is not torture.
And yes Idaho, its unAmerican to put the comfort of terrorists above the safety of your fellow citizens. Only someone who hates there country woudl rather see Americans die rather than make things a little rough for some terrorists. Yet you call me the nutjob, when your the one who thinks waterboarding or sleep deprevation is torture.....if you knew anything at all about our own military you would know many of our special forces are waterboarded as part of there training.
Hell you guys think anything other than please is torture.
Again, stop with the koolaid, I know Bush is the devil, he is satan, blah blah, thats all fine and dandy, but when you put the comfort of a terrorist above the lives of Americans that is just disgusting.
I will say again, go to jail in Mexico or the middle east and you will see what torture looks like. Ripping your finger nails out with pliers, breaking your bones, routine beatings, physical harm........nothing we do does any of that, waterboarding kills no one, it invokes fear.
Posted on May 11, 2009 12:03 PM
How come all the republican apologists that say that waterboarding is not torture then refuse to try the practice on themselves??? HANNITY.. WHERE ARE YOU?
Stillow, temporary discomfort is when I have the urge for #2 and there is no bathroom in site...waterboarding is cruel and unusual punishment hence torture. It is illigal and the information gathered is unreliable: I would say anything under torture, as it has been proven many times.
Posted on May 12, 2009 1:30 PM
Unreliable info? The CIA has already told you people waterboarding KSM lead DIRECTLY to the prevention of a 9/11 style attack on L.A. What mroe do you people want? I have freinds i nthe Rangers who were waterboarded in there training. My training did not contain it though, I was a communications specialist who programmed and maintained laser guided missile systems during my time in the military....but many of my freinds have gone through it.
If we capture a terrorist we know has evidence of an attack and you ask him please and then pretty please and he refuses to answer, then you whould waterboard him which has no physical harm or long term damage done, it is the fear of drowning that makes them talk. And the CIA tells us it works, but you libs would rather watch Americans die rather than waterboard. Your futile attempts to lcaim torture are border line retarded. Pelosi knew all about it and said nothing until she thought she could gain political points out of it and she is an uber liberal.
You don't protoect your country with pleases when questioning terrorists.
And lets not avoid the fac tyou liberals seem to always forget, they wouldn't be watebroarded if they weren't out there trying to kill innocent people!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quit protectig the damn enemy! Next time it may be your city.
How do you bleeding harts propose we get valuable info then? The CIA tells us waterboarding works and conventinal methods failed on KSM...so what is your answer liberals? Bribing them with money? How baout isntead of compalining about everything you actually come up with ideas instead of Bush is evil...............total morons!
Posted on May 12, 2009 2:09 PM
Progny, Progny, Progny.
The Geneva Conventions apply to uniformed soldiers, not terrorists.
And there is no law or treaty that I am aware of that defines exactly what acts are torture and what acts are not.
That leaves us with differences of opinion, which are indeed policy differences.
Just because you want it to be illegal because of your hatred for Dubya does not make it so.
Posted on May 12, 2009 8:03 PM
For me I will tell everything you want to hear if I'm waterboarded. That doesn't mean the info goven is accurate. people can go to any length to justify such practices. Afterall, they did it to justify the war in Iraq.
Posted on May 13, 2009 12:51 PM
Again, you propose absolutely no alternatives other than asking the terrorist please.
It worked on KSM....unless your prepared to claim and show proof the CIA is lying????
