Wait, I thought Obama was dangerously naive on foreign policy. Wasn't he "coddling our enemies" and "slapping the faces of our allies" and whatnot? Isn't it dangerous to decrease our stockpile of nuclear weapons to levels where we can only destroy the entire planet 5-6 times over rather than 7-8? Wasn't the wise and intelligent move supposed to be to start a 3rd war in Iran? I guess the American people just aren't violent enough for their own good.

All his ratings are below 50%, and his far more controversial anti-Israel policy is surprisingly resonating with the American policy as vile.

Most of his positive ratings are outside the margin of error, so that's good for him. I'd be surprised to see a +50% rating on a substantive foreign policy polling, as I think most people have no real opinion on things that don't obviously affect themselves daily. Combine that with lack of information, and sub-50% seems fair.

He's clearly trying to steal the "foreign policy / terrorism" mantle from the GOP.

And Israel has basically been a thorn in our side. We have to maintain relations with them, or they'll be annihilated. They know it, we know it, and they can use it for political gain. As for the poll, it's not specific enough to know why the President has a net-negative on Israel. Of course, 120% of statistics can be used to say whatever you'd like, so carry on...

All his positive ratings are below 50, yet still above his negatives, so I guess he's not popular enough! He's popular... but why isn't he MORE POPULAR???? It doesn't seem like a particularly effective spin campaign. Visions of McCain circa 2009 swirl in my mind.

None of these issues are mainstream right now. Terrorism has lost its scare factor for a lot of people because there has not been a major successful attack on us in 9 years. No one is paying attention to iran or Fghan.

When Iran gets a nuke and starts using the threat of using it as leverage to get what it wants fro mthe world, some of these approvals would change.

@Bigfoot, you think him having approval below 50% on every single issue is good? Of course he has a 48 - 49 approval on most everything. He hasn't done anything in any of those areas. They will continue to mirror his overall job approval.

jamesia:

Have you not been watching the Obama administration publicly humiliating and chastising Israel and yet still send money to Hamas and let Iran build the weapons they vow to use to destroy Israel?

I think the majority in this country remains pro-Israel and do not think we should let Iran blow them off the face of the earth. Obama appears to be throwing Israel to the wolves and that's why he only has a 35% approval. 35% of people would still approve of Obama if he made water illegal.

That's the partisan climate we live in.

These issues are so politically contentious and we're living in the times of partisanship. The fact that Obama has the democratic base on his side and a few independents it not different from his overall popularity.

Iran is not a threat. They do not have a suicidal wish. If they get a nuke and fire it on us or Israel, they have to realize that we will completely annihilate them and their nation will be turned into a wasteland.

Gary Wagner,
Thats still about double GW Bush's approval rating when he left, and last I checked about triple that of Boehner, McConnell or Steele who would appear to be the putative leaders of the Republican party. This is a two party system; one of them is getting stuff done and one appears dead-set on persuading an already fairly convinced electorate that they are completely incompetent.
