How exactly does it take a week to release an internet poll?

However, the Economist/YouGov polls have at least seemed less like random number generators than the Zogby polls.

NEW POLL: Lincoln leads Douglas by 7 points.

While the Internet panel format is probably not a great random sample, it does offer the benefit (if it's truly a panel survey) of being able to compare the same group over time. So when we see movement, we know it's actually people changing their minds, rather than a random change in the sampling of people. The last Economist/YouGov poll showed McCain up 45-43 (Sept 15-16), so this represents an increase for Obama of 5 points in a week. That figure is certainly consistent with the movement in the other major polls over the time period, so this one shouldn't be ruled out completely--we should just expect a bit of a McCain lean in numbers.
