Boom. You are running out of polls.

Time to distance yourself from your candidate.

where's Boom?! McGoAway has just come back a point on Gallup! He's only 9 down - Gallup is the Holy Grail! Where's Boom? It's not Rasmussen, it's Gallup! - Where's Boom?

Wow, this poll has really stretched out over the past several days.

It will be interesting to see the Gallup poll.

____________________

As much as I like these results, going from +1 to +10 in three days makes them look like a joke. It's not quite Zogby's state-level dart-throwing exercises, but it's close. The least they could do would be to average over three days as Rasmussen and Gallup do to mellow out the appearance of these results.

Between the Palin ethical mess, the upcoming final debate, and Obama's 30-minute ad buy, I can't see these numbers moving much for McCain. The momentum favors Obama.

AlanSnipes:

The tracking polls today are 12, 7, 9, and 10.
No, I am not counting Zogby.
This is an average lead of just over 9 points for Obama.

Indiana4Obama:

Looks like Gallup has narrowed a little, from 11 a couple of days ago to 9 today...still a significant lead for Obama.

and tell me, how does obama keep campaign promises, pray tell, if we have no money?

will you revolt or crucify him when he demures?

and what about a terrorist attack? he's already said he's gunning for pakistan and afghanistan. will he bring the country out of economic disaster by rustling up two wars?

why is his war better than bush's?
because he just sounds better, no twang?

things to think about, silly ones...
things to plan for.

have a nice weekend as you stretch your little minds. ooh, the pain...

Gallup will be an Obama 11% lead minimum tomorrow. Obama dropped 2 very good polling days the last 2 days.

johncoz:

Hotline has a low weighting, deservedly. But the national tracking polls are in their separate ways converging on a consensus (about an 8 point spread for Obama).

I have been very dubious about the possibility of a double digit lead for Obama, but it would seem the McCain campaign is doing everything it can to bring this about over the coming week.

GrampsMcCain:

I agree with maddie the write-up yesterday for Gallup yesterday said McCain had a better day of polling on Thursday. So if Obama didn't drop from 51 then he held his own yesterday. Look at how consistent the trackers are 52(R2K)52(Ras),50(Hotline),51(Gallup). 51(yesterday Battleground). We can look at Zogby and laugh but the 44% for Gramps is pretty much in line with some of the other polls.

"and what about a terrorist attack? he's already said he's gunning for pakistan and afghanistan. will he bring the country out of economic disaster by rustling up two wars?"

Obama never said anything about going to war with Pakistan. If you listened to his comments he said that he would work with the Pakistanis to help them rid their country of the taliban, but if hard evidence comes to us about bin Ladin and Pakistan will not or doesn't act, then he will. It sounds like a reasonable response.

As I recall, the Republicans argument against Bill Clinton was that he could have gotten bin Ladin before 9/11 but chose not to. So withwhich argument are you sticking? That we should get bin Ladin if we have actionable intelligence, or that we shouldn't? I wait your response.

The same old, same old. Nothing has really changed in the national polls this week. If anything, Obama has marginally increased his lead. McCain is toast.

It's got hurt to the McCain campaign that after an entire week attacking Obama with Ayers and the whole mudslinging that started a week ago, exactly. Obama holds on like if nothing has happened.

Look at this:

Gallup, October 4, 2008...Obama 50% McCain 42%
Gallup, October 11, 2008...Obama 51% McCain 42%

Rasmussen, October 4,...Obama 51% McCain 45%
Rasmussen, October 11...Obama 52% McCain 45%

No doubt that McCain's attacks have proven to be very, very effective :-)!!!

Keep it up McNasty.

I think the Obama campaign would be better served letting the media go after Palin and let her flap in the wind. It serves him no purpose to attack her at this moment. But it will unnerve the McCain camp that Obama could bring it out later if he so desired.

Good point Carl29.

Obama's cool demeanor through this week is showing leadership, while McCain is looking erratic and unstatesmanlike. A stark contrast in leasdership.

johncoz:

I now have a morbid fascination about what the incompetent McCain team will do next. They are starting down the barrel of a landslide defeat.

The internal dynamics must be fascinating. I have never been as positive about McCain as many others(and his behaviour over the past couple of months supports my previous scepticism), but he's actually been Mother Teresa compared with the dumb thugs he's hired to run his campaign.

Meanwhile, Republicans will be running over each other trying to distance themselves from this catastrophe.

Nice work Sarah! Keep it up!

Knyght:

I agree Decatur--and I'm certainly encouraged by the poll numbers--but Obama can afford to take the high road right now because he's ahead. It's the smart play from a political standpoint, but it should be noted that he has the luxury to do it... something MCCain doesn't have right now.

"he's already said he's gunning for pakistan and afghanistan."

Are McCain supporters so uninformed that they don't know WE'RE ALREADY AT WAR IN AFGHANISTAN?

They already are. Former MI Gov Milliken has backed away from his earlier emdorsement of McCain and Sen Coleman of MN cancelled an appearance with McCain in MN yesterday. McCain has seriously jeopardized the Republican's 2008 prospects. They were bad before, but now they are tanking.

pbcrunch:

I just read the latest "McCain is actually winning" argument.

No, it's not the Bradley Effect which everybody knows is Obama's lead + 3%...

It's because Hillary supporters are actually lying to the pollsters when they say they're voting for Obama and will actually be voting for McCain. It must be true because I'm sure the Hillary supporters LOVE the whirlwinds o' hate McCain's rallies have turned into...

Basil:

I posted this elsewhere but it was so much fun at the U of O that I had to keep sharing for a little while. McCain/Palin are going down big time.

I've just spent 3 days talking with students at the University of Oregon. While I know it's a liberal pace (Eugene keeps electing rep Peter deFazio by landslide margins every time), the energy level for Obama is astronomical.

The image of apathetic college voters is, at least in this case, totally wrong. These kids are going to vote in numbers that will make their turnout in 200 and 2004 look like off-years. They know they're making history on Nov. 4, they're excited by Obama/Biden, and they absolutely cannot bear McCain/Palin.

What's more, the U of O students I met are not mindless McCain/Palin haters. The commonest attitude seems to be bemused incredulity at McCain's (and especially Palin's) insane and inept campaign, not the personal hostility so often expressed by Republicans young and old.

Believe it. Eight years of Republican madness and rapacity have ruined the GOP brand with young voters, and the kids are loving every minute of this election.

Obama Tsunami!

I think if there is one thing I've learned this political season is that Sen. Obama and his team know how what to do and when do it...Any political quarterbacking to him seems pretty useless. Can anyone name ONE thing that you would have changed with his campaign so far?

I doubt after 20 months he would slow down or change his strategy as the goal line approaches, unless something unexpected happens.

The extraordinary campaign that Team Obama has run will keep political wonks busy with anaysis for years. Of course it helps when the times are with you, and your candidate is the political genius of his generation, but there is no denying they would have mountain goats in envy of their sure-footedness.

McCain will keep up the race baiting and nasty attacks for the next two weeks. When it becomes obvious he's going to lose in a landslide he will try and save face the last week and run a 'decent' campaign. However that will be too little too late, as his legacy as a moderate will be replaced as one one of the most dirty, unethical politicians in American history.
