Deadly crosstabs for McCain. 51-43 voted for Bush in 2004. Lots of old farts, very small % of young people. 11% AA (about right, not oversampled). 8% Hispanic (undersampled). 53-47 F/M (about right). If I read that right, only 1% Jewish vote (way undersampled)

The Powell endorsement has lifted Obama and slowed the natural tightening in the polls.

This poll is apparently not designed to get the "top line" correct because the "top line" question, who do you support for President, is not asked until the 35th question. The first 34 questions asked might well alter the answer to the who-do-you-love question.

BigTex says: "The Powell endorsement has lifted Obama and slowed the natural tightening in the polls."

I think BigTex nails it. Going back decades, there's always been a tightening in the last two weeks. We're not really seeing it this time, and it may very well be due to Colin Powell's endorsement.

Once and for all, let's drop "the race always tightens in the last two weeks" claim - it DOESN'T always tighten. Don't take my word for it - take a look at the Gallup trial heat polls dating back to 1948. Almost half the time the front runner increases his lead in the last trial heats polls.

And endorsements almost never matter - if you look at the tracking polls, there's no movement either way after Powell's endorsement.
