Balancing the budget with the kind of revenue shortfall we're going to have would mean pretty much everything would have to be cut. Of course, cutting the defense budget would bring the most bang for the buck.

Looks like people continue to shift their blame from Reps to Dems for the economy- to the tune of about 3-4% per month.

Well I like that 27 blame both...I'm in that group.
Aaron, if I have a fall in income guess what? I have to cut my expenses and live a little tighter than normal until I get more income.....g'ment should do the same. Running up trillions more in debt does nothing but hurt us even more i nthe long term.

Individuals are different than large businesses or governments. They can restart their personal economy with a new job, whereas big organizations that lose momentum find it nearly impossible to recover. The lessons of both the Great Depression and the Recession of the early 80's is that government deficit spending gets the economy going. Also, those deficits can be paid down as individual economies like yours start to turn. You don't strike me as someone naive enough to believe that this is a matter of cutting earmarks or the NEA to balance the budget. If you left defense alone, you would have to cut a draconian percentage of the domestic budget.

Too many Americans never look outside their own country, but check this out. America is not the worst when it comes to unemployment rates. I noticed Ireland had 13 percent unemployment, and France was high too. This is an international crisis which isn't the fault of our president exactly. It may not be the fault of Bush either, but the creation of jobs is one aspect of success, but the creation of better paying jobs with good benefits, has been a major problem in America.

The question missing from this survey is;
Would you be willing to eliminate all of the tax reductions of the Bush administartion, impose massive cuts in services and raise the necessary taxes to pay for the two wars in order to balance the budget?
My guess is that this question would get a resounding "NO".
Our budget position would be a far cry better off if we had adhered to "pay go" during the last administration.
