Someone talk me down!! When I was canvassing in Pennsylvania today, I was cursed out by a vile woman who called me a f***ing socialist and said some things about Obama that don't bear repeating! She said all of this in front of a 6 year old African American girl (who wasn't her own but her neighbor's)!! I swear the hatred for Obama is just overwhelming!! I saw A LOT OF McCain signs!! Even scarier, I saw A LOT of Democrat for McCain signs!! As if that wasn't demoralizing enough, I come, check the polls as usual =), and Rasmussen has Obama only up four in Pennsylvania:

"The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of voters in the state shows Obama with 51% of the vote while McCain picks up 47%. That four-point advantage for Obama is down from a seven-point margin earlier in the week and a 13-point advantage for Obama earlier in the month.
Just 75% of Pennsylvania Democrats now support their party’s nominee, down from 86% in the previous survey.

McCain is now viewed favorably by 55% of Pennsylvania voters, Obama by 54%. Those figures reflect a five-point improvement for McCain from the beginning of the month and a five-point decline for Obama."

Utah went to Bush by about 46 over Kerry and 41 over Gore. Deseret News more or less nailed the Kerry margin in 2004 with its final number being +45.

In short, although Obama obviously isn't going to win Utah, this indirectly bodes well for his chances in more competitive Western states, particularly the ones with decent Mormon populations (although of course none compare in that respect to Utah).

I'm not sure what all that has to do with a Utah poll, but anyway: I know PA pretty well, and of course there are McCain supporters--some rabid McCain supporters--in the state. They are just outweighed by all the Obama supporters, and not one poll taken since April, including the poll you cite, has shown any different. I could go into further detail on why that Rasmussen poll is probably not one to rely on in PA, but since even it shows Obama well ahead and over 50%, I don't think it is necessary.

Another piece of good news. No Zogby numbers from Drudge so could be good.

NoMcSame- go back a few posts to the ABC/Post surveyt release and Pennsylvania is discussed heavily...including the fact that the Rasmussen poll likely doesn't mean what you think it does. There have also been some local "in-house" polls over in Scranton and in Philly and other urban areas. I suspect that if a reliable poll shifts tomorrow they'll send the Clintons in Pennsylvania (I think Hillary is scheduled there for Monday, anyways).

And remember that Obama, Biden and Hillary are all going into Ohio. Both OH and PA have massive ground games ready. The fact that McCain supporters are going ballistic is more of an indication that they are frustrated. Let them vent...it'll actually win over more voters than not.

Just keep steady...you are doing us all proud.

I was phonebanking on Thursday to a small town in Nevada and got cursed out by a vile old man who used THE nasty expletive to describe Obama. He was filled with hate. But you know what? I made 100 calls and he was the only loony, rage-filled person.

I know PA well (grew up there) and some areas just don't have much exposure to different cultures, so there are some "rough edges."

What you shouldn't do is extrapolate your experience for the whole. There are people like that, but not every one is. Take some time and get your thoughts centered and get back on the horse.

11% undecided in Utah (or voting for other candidates?). And here I thought the state wsa known for people who have made up their minds.

I'll confess to a bit of uneasiness at the narrowing of the PA polls, but looked at rationally the situation is really fine. Remember: Obama has to do much worse there than Kerry did to lose the state. Remember also that the vast majority of those "Democrats for McCain" voted for Bush -- and, a "few thousand" bused in from who knows where is not really very many. Remember also that African-American turnout will be up -- and that Ras's sudden swing of black voters to McCain is pure statistical noise (Obama isn't going to do worse with black voters than Kerry did, to say the least).

AND, remember that the polls are consistently putting Obama over 50% in PA, which Kerry never had. Several late polls in '04 had Bush ahead in PA. So far, none has McCain closer than -4, and hopefully it will stay that way.

You correctly noted the sarcasm. Democrats tend to underperform in Utah; although I wouldn't rule out a 2-day Obama surge in the Mormon demographic if rumors of a 2nd and 3rd wife are confirmed.

What the hell is McCain doing making a stop in eastern Tennessee the day before the election? Are McCain internal polls showing a closer race in TN?

I'll talk you down. The same people who were going to vote republican anyway...have the trust of the republican voice. So anything that republicans say, they believe. I seriously doubt that level minded people are suddenly losing their minds...those minds have already been lost.

You just need to figure out who is voting for obama and talk to them! you don't need to change minds, you just need to help GOTV.

In a frank conclusion: i really can't believe the stupidity that has hijacked the republican party. It certainly makes a case for better education in our country.

There are people just as passionate for obama in other parts of pennsylvania, so don't worry, obama will carry PA and the US!

Do you think the state of Maryland will go for McLameBrain? Most polls show an approximately 20 point lead for Obama.

That said, if you go to Western Maryland, any county bordering Pennsylvania, or any county on the Eastern Shore, you would probably run into dozens of people who would greet you the same as the 'vile woman' you ran into.

Pennsylvania has it's 'T' that is conservative; Maryland has it's 'reverse Gamma' that is conservative. In Pennsylvania, the southern corners (especially the SE corner) is where the liberals are; in Maryland, it is the corridor from Baltimore to DC, where the population is highest, and six of eight of the Congressional districts are located.

Even so, you can find Neanderthal and Troglodyte neo-con RepugliCANTs in liberal central Maryland, and 'flaming liberals' in nutcase conservative western Maryland and on the Eastern Shore. I'm sure the same holds true in various areas of Pennsylvania also.

Now, if this were a Democratic leaning state, you would hear the following:

Wasn't Obama up by 31 the other day! OMG, McCain is gaining on him! Why doesn't he come back to Utah and campaign! Oh! We're doomed!
