By the way, apparently George Will was reading my post from a couple of weeks ago when i wanted Mitch Daniels for prez and Paul Ryan as VP. He wrote the exact same thing in his column yesterday.

FM - Daniels / Ryan?????? That would be awesome!! I actually am almost certain Daniels is going to run since he is not running against Bayh.....he could defeat bayh, but I think Daniels is eyeing the WH....and Ryan would make a glorious VP....finally some atual common sense in the WH.

Yeah, that would be great. The, "I want to completely eliminate medicare and give out social security to wall street crowd." Have you read the GOP alternative budget proposal by Ryan. Terrifying to say the least!

LM - Your right...continuing to spend trillions and trillions year after year that we don't have is the best thing to do!!! Hell, I say we just give everyone a million dollars and let the debt go to a quadrillion....

Mitch Daniels instituted a plan that insured 132,000 uninsured Indianans and paid for it by raising cigarette taxes. Is that someone you really want, Stillow? He's paying for lazy people's health care by raising taxes.

My question would be, since the plan encourages people not to smoke, how will it be paid for when smokers decline?

Ryan:

The majority of smokers are of low SES, they are the one's paying these taxes for their own healthcare, by and large. If the plan is successful, and smoking is less prevalent, their healthcare costs will go down.

If you are going to provide this type of medicade, taxing something unhealthy that is primarily consumed by the constituents who will be utilizing the "free" service is the most logical way to pay for it.

Yeah rich/healthy people never smoke. Great argument. Sin taxes will save the world in multiple ways it seems.
