Those numbers literally don't add up. R+8 edge in a D+10 state with only a 3% favorability gap? Rass's model would have to be assuming both a 20% one-sided cross-over vote AND a 20% enthusiasm gap in order for this to even be possible...

rdw,

Its a post convention bounce for Whitman. The polling was taken right after the state GOP convention last weekend. It will most likely not hold.

Whitman has been running ads nonstop attacking Brown. He has yet to really begin his media campaign.

Once CA, WA, and WI being true toss-ups or even lean R, Senate will be VERY much within reach for R.

Ridiculous understatement of Democratic strength. A hallmark of Raz polls. If Whitman is ahead it is by a slim margin at best at this point. No way are Brown's negatives that high.

I actually can believe this poll. Whitman may not be ahead by as much as 8 but she is probably ahead. Brown has always had a very odd personality and despite the warnings from the polls in March he is refusing to campaign. This isn't the first time Jerry Brown has lost an election in California. With Whitman virtually controlling the airwaves in California and Jerry running a very low quality campaign it was bound to happen. She is probably realistically up by 3 or 4.

I know it was said earlier, but seriously, why would anyone want this job? California is pretty much beyond hope for manageability. I would love to be wrong, because California is a beautiful state with beautiful people.

I hope this poll is correct as Meg Whitman is the one republican I am routing for this cycle. Jerry Brown is washed up. Meg Whitman is a bright, pragmatic, strong candidate. I also like the fact that she is moderate with some common sense. So I will be waiting to see when Sarah Palin starts attacking her just like she did to Scott Brown the other day because god forbid a moderate republican actually want to work with the other party to get something done. If I were Scott Brown I would wear Palin's criticism as a badge of honor.
