This is still CT where they would actually forgive a public servant for making a mistake like that. Serving in the Vietnam war doesn't mean you went to the country if you contributed to the war effort.

If this were anywhere but New England, I think all hell would break loose and you would see the same kind of brainless campaign ads you see everywhere else.

Isn't it interesting that Rass comes out with a poll showing Blumenthal with a commanding lead AFTER Q-pac does? Sames goes with Kentucky and the Survey Usa poll. And in the read out, he says "seems like Blumenthal has weathered the storm" and "the NYT is an influential paper among Dems". INTERESTING.

@ Farleft

I'm not in Illinois, but I haven't heard that the same ads broke out over Mark Kirk's slip ups about his record. I was in California when Darrell Issa ran for various offices, and I never heard anything about his egregious lying about his military record. And the whole country turned a blind eye to Reagan falsehoods about what he did in World War 2.

The common factor? All Republicans of course, and we know that they can do no wrong.

Its all a conspiracy Strobe.

More interesting is that people actually blow-off the fact that Blumenthal is a habitual liar and will still vote for him. Can you imagine if the BP CEO made one lie? He would be castigated and vilified and probably fired.

I guess we expect less of our elected officials. I know i do.

well Now Jan Brewer was caught lying about her father dying fighting the German regime. He died from lung cancer. He worked in an munitions plant but almost everyone did. He was a civilian who died in 1955 from lung cancer. How are you going to spin this? FM? and Kirk too?

I'm sure you've never voted for someone who lied Field Marshal..right? I'm sure you wouldn't vote for Kirk if you had the chance....you wouldn't want to vote for a liar and be a hypocrit would you?

They are Republicans though. It's ok for them.

Wait a damn second! You people mean to tell me politicians lie? Next thing you know, you are going to claim they steal as well!

Guess what people? Politicians from both parties lie, cheat, steal and get caught screwing around. For a leftist or a right-winger to claim one side or the other is morally superior is ridiculous. For every crook like Charlie Rangel and William Jefferson on the Democratic side, I can give you a Bob Ney and Duke Cunningham on the Republican side. Only a hyper-partisan like most of the people that post comments on this site are blind to the truth- both sides are full of bums!

Yes, I agree with SJT 22 about Issa being a great opportunist who wants publicity. Of course politicians will be their "dog eat dog"selves. Progressives seize opportunities to attack their opponents in the same way.

Reagan did encourage a senate candidate not to run back in the late 80's. I think he supported the more well known and more conservative candidate for the GOP primary. Likewise, Reagan wasn't always clear about the fact he didn't serve in World War 2. Unlike VIetnam that was a war people were regarded as heroes too. Of course Reagan did pretty well for himself.

I don't think ISSA is going to get anywhere. Sex scandals, and participating in financial scandals are really the things that tend to finish of a candidate.

Yes, politicians lie. Yet, one party in the country keeps them in the highest regard and extols their virtue while the other realizes their limitations (which are bountiful).

I don't like to get into the blame game and name calling that goes on in these forums, but FM, you can't honestly believe what you just said. That's willful blindness, partisan hackery (made up word I know), or a straight lie. I don't need to go into examples, because dozens exist for all parties.

Both are equal. Both are treated equally. Please, let's not go down the road of being biased hacks, any of us.

Rass is simply not credible at this point. That's two 15+ point shifts in two weeks in high profile races.

I fully expect him to show Rossi leading Murray by 10 points, have PPP refute it, and then Show a tie or a slight Murray lead less than two weeks later.

Nate Silver has shown and believes that Rass and Research 2000 have done a very poor job at polling this year.

Gopher,

You dont think one party thinks more of government solutions than the other? As i said both parties lie but one party thinks much more highly of government and politicians than the other. No blaming or partisan hackery there.

FM,

If you're talking about the government you're right, but your post implied you were talking about politicians and not government.

You said, "Yes, politicians lie. Yet, one party in the country keeps them in the highest regard." This sentence cannot refer to government because you use the word them, which is plural. Them, in your use refers to politicians. Thus, you implied that one party holds lying politicians in the highest regard.

You also said, "while the other realizes their limitations." Their, is also plural. Here, you either use their to refer to the other party, which would be an incorrect use because party is singular, or you are referring to the party's politicians, in which case, their would be used correctly.

In any event, your post wasn't very clear.

Looks like the whole Vietnam flap strategy didn't pan out for the McMahon camp or the media who at one point were talking more about this story than the oil spill. Looks like it actually hurt her approvals. Unless anything comes out that is way more damaging the the Nam story, then Blumenthal will win this seat.

Blumenthal is an ass. If I ever met him I would sock him right in his face and put him on the floor on behalf of all military service members he disrepsected. The libs in CT may be idiots who don't care about this kind of stuff, but most of the rest of us do. I would knock him to the floor.

So ya, on behalf of myself and my fellow servicemen over the years, this guy deserves a good old fashioned american butt kicking for what he did.

Linda McMahon is a fraud. You can't nominate her just because she has millions of dollars. She said she has been fed up with Washington? On what basis? She has been contributing money to the Democrats and Republicans equally for years!

Peter Schiff is actually a true fiscal conservative. From 2005-2007 he was on TV shows calling the economic collapse of 2008. He wrote books on our economy and it's problems and he has written op-eds PROVING he has been fed up with Washington. His business in the field of economics is a lot more relevant than McMahon's career as a wrestling promoter.

These polls show that Schiff can beat Blumenthal. A third of the voters still don't know Schiff yet he still loses by the same margin and he is proportionately a lot more favorable than she is. And he has done this by spending 1.5 million dollars, Linda has spent somewhere in the tens of millions and she hasn't gotten any farther than Peter.

I guess Stillow just got deflated with this poll!

Yeah, as a former long time CT resident having grown up there, I could sit here and explain RB's very long relationship with the CT public, and why this poll number is not surprising inspite of what happened, but that would be a waste of time, so I won't bother, Stillow will still keep threatening violence i'm sure

I could care less about CT or the morons in that state. I am speaking for probably 95 percent of the armed forces and people who have served in them, myself included....that Blumenthal is a jerk who disrecpts us all. I didn't serve so some idiot can lie about serving. He needs a good knock in the jaw for saying crap like that....as for the race, i could not care less.
