CBS Poll: Voters Increasingly View McCain As Negative

The latest CBS News/New York Times poll will be released at 6:30pm ET today but a sneak peak at it shows that an increasing number of voters see John McCain as running a negative campaign while more see Obama as explaining what he would do as president.

It's a good thing grampa pulled his Michigan resources and sent them to Maine to win one of their EVs. Because clearly there is a huge surge for gramps in ME.

Funny about a week ago McCain went to Maine remember to try and grab that 1 electoral vote? FAIL.

So . . .

At this point in 2004, national polls were all over the place, some showing Bush ahead, some showing Kerry ahead, but all showing a tight race.

Right now, all the national polls, every single one, show Obama ahead, though (tossing the McCain fans a bone) a few show the race within MOE. Moreover, McCain has to "thread the needle" to get to 270 EVs, while Obama has numerous paths to 270 EVs.

Could someone (Boomshak, alankeyesisawesome, anyone?) 'splain me how this situation should give Dems trepidation and Repubs hope?

I'm really asking a serious question here.

VA YELLOW DOG,

Republicans can still have hope because THE ELECTION IS NOT OVER. Simple, no? Unlike democrats, when the situation looks bleak we don't run. We fight harder. Bring it! See ya on Nov. 4th!

Sincerely,
RaleighNC

PS: And if we lose you can be sure there will no riots.

@RaleighNC

Are you saying that there were riots when Gore and Kerry lost to Bush?

What the heck are you referring to?

VA YELLOW DOG: Collins is safe - Dems will not reach 60 - good news for GOP. McCain probably helped her last week (he should go to KY to save McConnell). GOP may survive as a viable party. Answer your question?

One thing that has slightly concerned me recently is the smallness of O's lead in NH. I'd like to think that results like this one are good pictures of what's going on in a lot of the NE.

On the evening of Novermber 4th, I think we'll know pretty early if Obama-Biden has the potentially historic night these current national polls are reporting......

Indiana and Kentucky (2 historically red states) polls close first. If one (probably IN) or even both (KY less likely, although recent show that state narrowing to 8 points) are "too close to call", I think it's GAME! SET! MATCH!

As of right now, I think Obama-Biden ends up winning by 4-5 points nationally (51-46) taking 2004 red states Iowa, New Mexico, Virginia, Colorado, Missouri, Ohio, Nevada, & Florida. If the margin widens as closer to 10 points (53-44), that's when states like North Carolina, Indiana, Montana, and North Dakota will start tipping over to the blue column.

Hence a margin range of 4-9 points, with anywhere from 320-380 EVs..12 days and counting to go..bring it home STRONG! SoCal native will be canvassing and volunteering in Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend!

Not a big lead in NH, but if you bring up the state trendlines page the lines ARE diverging.

Key in these Maine results is that Obama's lead is only 3 points different between the two congressional districts. McCain expended resources to win 1 electoral vote.

@SoCal Rules

I'll think you'll have better luck just watching VA, NC on the east coast as an early indicator of a landslide.

I cannot believe that Collins is polling so well here.

@CTPonix4BHObama

Good point, but Indiana and Kentucky are normally the first 2 states to close their polls on Election night (6:00PM EST, I believe). Even before the East Coast states like Virginia and North Carolina which start closing @ 7:00PM EST. So I think those state early results and exit polls will tell a lot. If BOTH Indiana and/or Kentucky are too close too call, then I think Obama wins Virginia and North Carolina..and the waterfall will break as the rest of the states close throughout the night. Indiana and Kentucky will be a precursor for the rest of the night.....

OBAMA-BIDEN 2008!!!
