Harry Reid needed Gibbons to remain the GOP nominee but it's been obvious for a couple of years that Republicans wouldn't allow that to happen. The GOP historically shows up in much greater numbers than Democrats in Nevada midterms but a re-elect Gibbons candidacy would have been a natural boost to Democratic passion and turnout. Now, Reid likely will have to do it on his own.
