With Gilli's approval so low, can't believe GOP can't mount a formidable challenge.

NY GOP sucks!

Dioguardi is Kara Dioguardi's father (American idol judge for those of you who might not know her.) It seems like he is leading. 2nd American idol contestant or judge having a relative running for office. Scott Brown's daughter was a contestant on Idol.

Woudl you want to run against Gillibrand with Cuomo at the top of the ticket? 67% are ready to vote for the Democratic governor, and NY has a straight ticket voting option on their machines. Gillibrand gets a ton of free votes from Cuomo. Who would challenge that?

Also, she has like $16 million dollars in her bank account...

Gillibrand is one of the nicest most down to earth politicians I have met. She is warm, and a good listener, and can answer questions in a sensative manner even when people are rude at town halls. I think she'll be Senator for a long time. She just hasn't found a way to connect with the white downstaters who really wanted Guilliani to run.

Pataki and Guilliani were the only viable candidates who could have beaten her.

It is hard to find republicans, especially in upstate NY who are socially moderate enough to win statewide office. I know from experience that they are more like the kinds of conservatives you find in Ohio. They can connect with people in the smaller towns, but couldn't with the Metro NYC area.

I saw Gillibrand on Rachel Maddow's show. I agree with Far left regarding her personal attributes. I think she can connect with voters once they know who she is. Very attractive, very personable too. I think she could have beat Pataki and Giuliani but it would have been a tight race. However, she will beat Kara's dad pretty easily.

Why oh why didn't you run Pataki??

Something Kagan came clean about was her reaction to the 1980 election when a high profile Democratic candidate lost a close election to Alphonse D'Amato and she got really drunk and I think she had to go to the hospital.

I guess I could understand that one. I can remember some elections where I got stinking drunk. After 2004, I was a mess. I thought that the public was so stupid that Republicans would be in the white house forever.
