This FL poll is the fourth in a row that shows the race there at 3 points or less. FL is a toss-up.

The good news for McCain is that he remains slightly ahead. The good news for Obama is that this poll has him down just 3 while getting just 70% of Democrats and just 84% of African-Americans. As in many other polls, he has more room for growth than does McCain. Ultimately, he will likely get at least 8 in 10 Dems and at least 9 in 10 African-Americans.

Also, this poll was taken before the Biden announcement. Biden may help Obama in FL due to its large number of seniors and Roman Catholics. He also has some FL connections.

FL will be very close.

This is supposed to be a website dedicated to discussing polls, not posting partisan rants on the top item so people will read them. Unfortunately, almost the entire blogosphere has become a pitiful self-parody of the First Amendment, this website among them.

It's about Obama's incredible ground game.

The speech Obama gives on Thursday will be in front of a 80,000 person audience who will be using their cell-phones to build a volunteer base.

In the end, the Clinton supporters will be voting for Barack. Bill Clinton will be the key speech this week. He will give it to Mccain like no one else has ever before this campaign season. Joe Biden will just take his spot once the convention ends this week.

The interesting thing to me about this poll is it being sponsored by the Florida CoC, a typically republican oriented group, while run through Kitchens firm, apparently Dem oriented?

Which way might the bias in this poll run?

With a lot of these current polls showing that Obama is losing support, It seems that some of his supporters are in a state of denial. You see these entries that declare that the sample isn't large enough or the polling company is in cahoots with the republicans, etc. This could get worse.

Be careful for what you wish for. The polls are telling us that there is fertile ground for an up to 15% Obama convention bounce.

But more strikingly the polls are telling us that McCain is unelectable.

Another poll indicating a close race in FL with McCain with the edge at this point. Interestingly it is another poll showing Obama with a lead in the hispanic vote, (49-32 albeit with a large MOE). All the FL polls which release their cross-tabs have Obama either tied or leading with hispanics. Bush won the hispanic vote in 2004 by 12 point. If Obama wins the hispanic vote this year, Fl might well be a cliffhanger again.

When Obama drops one point and McCain drops three (from the July CofC poll), such that the poll is now within the MOE, why is that bad news for Obama?

I'm sure someone will tell me, given that there are those who seem to think that all news is bad news for Obama.

Big turnout in FL=Obama win. Turnout=payback for 2000.
Bush/Cheney/GOP were given plenty of slack in '04 to wrap up the Iraq war. $1,000,000,000,000 later, was it worth it?

McDonald makes a good point (I do like the quote), but a site devoted to polling methods is likely to be of limited interest. I'm a partisan, but I try not to be an angry one. It's a hall of mirrors anyway. marctx could be an Obamista who's just trying to make R's seem bitter and cranky. If the tx stands for Texas, maybe that explains something--or nothing.

To repeat what I said elsewhere -- it is very dangerous to play dice with history. And I've never seen how political discussion advances when people use discussion to score points rather than, well, discuss things. This ventilation of hatred and one-up-manship: I know it works on talk radio and Fox News, but really, how can a nation be a nation, how can it deliberate about its future, when hatred and resentment are accepted as bonafide motives for entering into political discussion, and the venting of hatred and resentment is the only end result? That, of course, and the political inertia that follows.

So am I going to be called names because I thought it was really weird to have Obama's head appear on a really BIG screen with Michelle and the kids on stage? It reminded me of political parody.... or the Wizard of Oz.

Getting back to this poll, the Hispanic numbers seem unlikely, despite the hardline approach by Republicans on the issue of immigration. Many Hispanics in FL are Cuban, and this vote tends to be conservative. McCain may have a slightly larger lead here than 3 points. Still, it remains close, and there are many undecideds still to be won.

With respect to the actual polls which is what we're here for, Florida continues to be a swing state within the MOE. Regardless of everything said above, at this point it could easily go either way. We still have the conventions, debates, and 3 months of political ads, speeches, and sound bytes.
