Normally 5% is close enough to fight, but this is New Jersey. It's among the most expensive states to fight for, so I don't think the GOP should waste money here when they need to save for defense.
11% are undecided.
With leaners it is Obama 47-McCain 44.
Favorable/Unfavorable: Obama 55/43-McCain 59-38.
The New Jersey Market also spills over into Pennsylvania.
Interestingly the incumbent Lautenberg has improved his standing by 4 points, whereas Obama has lost 4 points, while McCain has held steady.
John McCain is faring here much better than the GOP Senate candidate.
Curious to know why so many moved to the undecided for the Presidential race and why Obama trended down and not McCain.
Part of the closeness of the NJ polls may be due to some very unpopular fiscal policies that Corzine is pushing. The state needs the money, but that doesn't mean people like what's going on. But I really don't think, in the end, McCain is going to have much of a chance.
Y'all may remember that Bush tried to contest Jersey back in 04. Didn't work then, won't work now.
I hope mccant tries to contest NJ...(hee hee).
If McCain campaigns in Pennsylvania and buys ads for western PA then he automatically gets a large New Jersey coverage... i.e. two birds with one stone and not a waste of money.
This is a standard story for New Jersey: "Poll shows Democrats' lead surprisingly narrow" etc., etc.--and of course they go on to win the state easily. Happened with Kerry in 2004, Menendez in 2006, etc.
If I were Obama, I would not lose any sleep over this one.
Correction: Make that EASTERN PA.
What's interesting to me is the new poll from Rassmussen of ND-
This is interesting in relation to the recent NJ poll. So are we to believe that obama gained in ND but lost ground in NJ??
YES.
Zogby (paid subscription) from June 11-30, sample size 1220, error +/- 2.9%, has Obama 48.9, McCain 36, Nader 1.5, Barr 2.9, Don't know, not sure 10.8.
