TJ09:

This poll shows how the actions of an administration can erode the character of a nation. I guess America is just a really good idea and the people of this nation aren't capable of living up to it.

Agreed TJ09. A very depressing poll. Were it taken a decade ago, I would think those overall percentages would be flipped. The longer Americans are exposed to this type of behavior and given excuses for "harsh techniques" veiled as logical arguments, the more tolerable it becomes.

I'm on the polar oppositte as you guys. Its frightening to me that you would put the comfort of an enemy trying to blow up entire cities above the safety of your own country. repubs and Indy's have this one right. waterboarding is not torture, it is an effective way of getting information from terrorists. The KSM interrogation is a perfect example of how waterboarding led directly to the prevention of an attack on Los Angeles.
This is a war against a new kind of enemy, they don't care about land or power, they simply wanna kill as many civvillians as possible.
So what is distressing is that Dems do not understand this....and would rather watch Americans die than to subject terrorists to momentary discomfort.
It is not torture, please visit mexican or chinese prisons if you wish to see what torture looks like.
Thanksfully the Repubs and Indy's have this one right....

Again with the KSM/Los Angeles thing? That's been proven to be false. The LA plot was foiled almost a year prior to when KSM was waterboarded.

Waterboarding isn't effective, it isn't moral and it isn't justified. It wasn't ok when the Japanese did it to our POWs, and its not ok now.

You are just flat wrong on this one. Even Panetta, a huge democract has acknowldged waterboarding was affective on KSM...and indeed the CIA's claim it prevented an attack is true.
Unless you can present to me evidence the CIA is lying, I will stand by them.
I am simply sorry, the army field manual is not effective against trained terrorists, espeically high value terrorists who we know have informaiton The army feild manual was deisnged for captured ground soldiers, who know very little....ground soldiers are usually given as little info as possible.
And also, you dems are opposed to waterboarding which we know gets good information....what do you propose we do to someone like KSM who we knew had information but resisted all forms of please when we asked him to provide us with the info he had on other attacks?
You Dems are just way way wrong o nthis issue.
There is nothing immoral about protecting your country. And I would make this assumption, that if an attack was being planned o na specific city and we hd a terrorist or terrorists in custody we knew had info, and tht info was made public, i assure you that Dems who clai mto be opposed to it woudl suddenly change there minds if it was there city.
Its simply not torture....its very harsh yes, but it snot torture...and when your dealing with terrorists actively tryign t oobtain WMD, then you better deploy what tools you can to get al lthe info you can.
I fear though that Dems will not understand this until a city is hit again and probably with some type of WMD....I think then most of the Dems opposed will suddenly have a change of mind on this issue.

I also got to tell you I think a lot of this opposition to waterbaording etc stems from yur hatrid of Bush. Pelosi has tried this game already and she got busted. She knew all about it, but said nothing. Then she decided a poltical witch hunt would be fun, but as witch hunts usually do, it backfired on her. Now she is discredited and she looks foolish to most Americans. She tried to play a game with national security and it bit her i nthe butt. She is as liberal as it gets, even she knew years ago waterboarding was effective and she had no complaitns about it. It was not until now when they decided to try and go after Bush....she got caught and caught big time. It exposed much of the politisizing the Dems are guilty of on temr sof natioanl security.
Even Panetta is out ther enow saying she is basically lying about not knowing. Where was the liberal outrage from her? Why did she hide her outrage until now when she thought a witch hunt might get he rbrownie points and help step on Bush even more?
While there may be real dems who hav ereal opposition to it, many many f them have there opposition driven by partisanship and hatrid for Bush....just as pelosi's is.
