What about "Angry attacks against made up stuff that isn't actually in any of the proposed bills and has nothing at all to do with the issue at hand?"

These numbers are disturbing, especially the last one. Do one third of Americans really believe that shouting down opposing viewpoints is an example of Democracy?

It technically is.

Read the first part, 51 percent say its democracy in action for angry attacks on a bill....yet 59 say shouting down is abuse. Many times when one is angry they shout....

These people are angry, these are elderly people who worked there entire lives, many of them faught in wars for this country and now they are expressing anger at what they see their g'ment doing.

These people have earned the right to be heard, they have the right to be angry and they have the right to let there elected officials know it. These are not thugs as the media and the left wish us to think, these are real Americans with real concerns.

The reason its the elderly leading the opposition is because they understand in this new g'ment run healht care model they will suffer the most. Although many on the left are in denial about it, treatment for the elderly will indeed be rationed.

And when some of these liberal members of congress get up on stage and tell lies about the bill....then ya, I would boo them too....many of these Dems are either to stupid to know whats in the bill or they are just outright lying about some of the provisions....and hte people know it.

Independents naturally like to question those in power and are very cynical of government, no matter which politicl party is in power. They seem to be enjoying the politicians taking heat from the right-wing.

Democracy as know it today (August 2009)
is not really MOB rule!! EMOTIONAL outbursts
by an ignorant and uninformed angry group,
reminds ME of GERMAN HISTORY of the 1930's!

@ RHiraku

It technically is Democracy to shout down and surpress opposing viewpoints?

@Stillow

Funny, all the elderly vets I know are pro-Medicare, pro-healthcare reform and anti-yelling out random angry rants which have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

But lets not give these people too much credit. These "angry folks" shown ranting at town halls aren't all grizzled old war vets genuinely concerned about policy. They are angry loons of all ages, who are ranting about Czars, Death panels, birth certificates, enemies lists, the judgement of God and any number of things which have nothing to do with any of the 5 competing health care proposals or anything else currently under discussion.

The sad thing is that for every one of these squeaky wheels shown to us there are likely 10, 20, perhaps 100 peaceable citizens liberal, conservative or moderate who actually want to discuss policy and behave in a civil manner.

To bad the polling data doesn't backup your opinion.

The left kills me, if this kind of grass roots protest was taking place while Bush was president every lib and media outlet o nthe planet would be praising them....saying things like "dissent is Ameircan" "What's mroe American than voicing your opinion"....

You lefties are so easily called out these days..........those nazi loving old ladies, ya gotta watch out for them right?

We've never seen liberal protests where libs get together and voice there concerns...we never see libs protesting and shouting down politicans or say conservative speakers on a college campus.......

You guys are making this way to easy....you can sure dish it out, but you cannot seem to take protests against your wacky big g'ment plans....

Many of these protestors are actually on record as being registered Democrats.......

I don't think you lefties understand why you are losing this debate, why polls show majority of americans don't want this g'ment takeoever........keep calling old ladies and people in wheelchairs nazi's and un-american, keep calling them thugs....its really working for you!

Stillow -- What reasonable people are concerned about is when the debate is hijacked by people (the right wing tea partiers) who don't want to debate, at least on facts, but want to shout slogans and pass off misinformation and lies. You give yourself away by referring to a "g'ment takeover;" I don't imagine you know any specifics about the health care proposals, but if you're objecting to making health care more affordable and secure, or putting limits on insurance companies denying coverage to ordinary Americans, I'd like to hear you advocate that to your fellow citizens. You're being a tool for the insurance companies, whether you know it or not.
