I hope Scott Rasmussen is paying attention to the party ID numbers. According to Scott there is currently more republicans in the country then democrats at +1.

Rasmussen does not claim that Republicans lead Democrats by one point in party identification. Rather, he claims that Republicans lead Democrats by one point in his "generic congressional" poll. Those are two quite different things--there could be more self-identified Democrats than Republicans, yet Republicans could lead the generic congressional poll if more independents planned to vote for a Republican for Congress than for a Democrat.

That being said, I think that both Rasmussen's generic congressional poll and his party identification figures--he has the Democrats leading Republicans by only six points, less than the majority of other polls--are probably too GOP-friendly, due perhaps to his use of "likely voters" rather than registeed voters or the general adult public. I think it very dubious that one can identify "likely voters" this far in advance of an election.
